Brake Squeal ARRGH!!!!

Postby NewSuboy » Mon May 31, 2010 2:42 pm

I wonder if you guys can help

My brakes have started to squeal when I slow down, its only when I push the pedal with moderate force, light and hard braking doesn’t make a sound at all.

The pads were replaced approx 600miles ago and discs were replaced early last year – the usual copper grease has been applied to the backs of the pads etc and there are no signs of excessive wear.

From what I gather its common for the brembo's to squeal and it doesnt really go away, is this true??

Any idea's people, its driving me mad

Appreciated

Never had any noise fae my brembo's, did shim plates(think thats what there called) get put on with the new pads? Also you can get weights to stop brembos fae squealing, My type r had bad brake squeal but thats cause the piston was seized,

Give the brakes a good jetwash then get a brake fitter garage to use their air hose to blow out the brake dust all round the calipers - fixed my squeal as my pads/discs were barely warn and mine did it. not done it for a while now though touch wood.

Thanks guys

Is the shim plates the bit of metal that covers the pins on the side of the caliper? If so no they are existing ones, I cleaned and greased them up today and still the same.

Ive also give them a good jet wash the other day, there always seems to be lots of brake dust on my wheels.

Maybe its worth while getting them all taken apart stripped down and cleaned and air blasted as you say see if that helps.

Also maybe worth while swapping the pads over from one side to the other, granted I'll have to bed them in again but worth a try.

Only just spotted this...

If anyone is interested the problems was down to a dodgy set of brake disks on the rear, they were collecting rust particles in the tiny grooved caused by the pad friction and as a result that was building up on the pads and squealing when I applied the brakes.

I decided to chang disks and pads for a new set from Ian @ Godspeed and perfecto!!

Not sure they were put on the car by the previous owner as part of a service... they were crap.

The pads were all crumbling too there was no branding or anything on them so couldnt tell.
