Wheel & Tyre size issues

If i buy a set of wheels which are 18" x 9j wide what is the correct tyre size i should use.

When i looked at the wheels they suggested 255/35/18 this seems awfully wide to me and may even rub on the inner arches of the Scoob..

I know that if they are 18" x 8j wide i should use 225/40/18 as thats the correct size for the PFF7's isn't it? Also would the 225/40/18 be ok to use on the 9j wide wheels??

I thought 18x8 was the widest you can go? Its wise to put 235/35/18 to protect the rims although 225/40/18 is also fine
