What Tyres??

Was curious to know what tyres people would recommend, I’ve got a couple of thousand miles left on a set of Khumo's they were on it when I got it, previous owner reckoned they were as good as the original P-Zero's but lasted twice as long....

Which would you recommend considering were going into the wetter part of the year and car gets a lot of track day use.

I have Yokohama Parada Spec 2's and love them, In the wet they're not great but not bad either - nice and predictable. In the dry they're immense!
Going round corners just got a whole lot faster...

Khumos are a budget tyre and will not be giving you the best out of the car. Seems like a rather odd choice of tyre for a 300+ bhp car.

Guess you need to determine what you want from the tyre. I use Eagle F1s as they are great in the wet and dry. I fully accept there are better tyres for the dry but it is a trade off as with everything in life.

I liked the zero neros but after two sets i have Toyo Trs1's (i think thats the number) hated them to start with but really like them now they're worn in, great grip wet & dry only downside is they grip so well its hard to have a wee bit back end out fun on wet roundabouts like i used to do with the neros.

What miles do you get out of them? My F1s last about 5-6k miles. However the wear seems better since the new suspension

I only put them on in the summer & they still look fine so can't really say.

I used to use F1's on my old scoob & loved them & the grip wet or dry is amazing but yeah only got about the same 5-6k out of them. The outer shoulders used to get shredded on a spirited drive on the chipped road surfaces we have up here.
The Toyos are a similar tread pattern to the f1's but with a different band round the shoulders which i'm hoping will last a bit longer.

Got to agree with GeeWR1,i'm a big fan of the Toyo T1R's.The T1R's are sort of an upgrade to the Toyo Proxes,they've beefed up the shoulder of the tyres a good bit.Toyo had quite a lot of complaints regarding the Proxes,not for the grip of the tyre but due to the wear and tear of them

Are the T1R's a less focused tyre than the 888s?

T1R's thats what i ment but couldna mind what order the letters were in lol.

Yeah more of a road tyre Stu where as the 888's are more a track biased cut slick which happens to be road legal.

Falken 452's best value out there, on my second set an they never let go at silverstone, while other using toyos were jellified !

I'd read SO many good comments from peeps running Falken 452's that I also run these in pref to Toyo Proxes T1-r's which when towards the end of their life were useless at Kemble Airfield in the dry. Understeer or what !

I use F1 on mine and with the Falken 452's you get what you pay for!
Sooner and not much later you'll end up in a ditch :lol:

I was chatting to a RS4 owner the other day about tyres and he was looking for the "best" budget tyre he could find... FFS.

Rubber and brakes should not be compromised in my opinion. Like the story from Hightower, anything can pull out on you and it is your brakes and tyres that determine how you are going to stop. Rant over...

By the way, can I just say, I have seen Pasty take a slow bend on the Cat'n'Fiddle race track... he demonstrated understeer, or was it NO STEER. All other scoobys went around the same bend with ease on a mildly moist day... What tyres were you running then?

Your begining to sound like Spad with your rants :lol:
I do totally agree though dont go for the cheapest brakes or tyres on any high performance car as they are the only things stopping you from hitting something very quickly...

The Khumo's just had to go "in the wet the were SHOCKING!!!" there was still plenty of life left on them but whats the point of having 300+bhp if you can't use it?

Managed to get what i think was a good deal on 4xEagle F1's, fitted and balanced + tracking £400 from my local Kwik Fit...

Looking forward to putting them through their paces at Brands on Monday :lol:

The more posts I see like this the more I realise the bad name I must give to Subaru drivers. :oops:

I had a set of F1s on the classic Turbo I owned before my WR1. I put a fresh set of four on in 2004 and two of those tyres stayed on the car (completely road legal) until 2008 (some 40000 miles later) :oops: :oops:

If my current tyres stay on the car for too long I will tender my resignation fom the club.

Ive got bridgestone re070's on mine and seem pretty good in the dry but as i dont use the car in the wet i couldnt comment on that side of things.

Ive got toyo proxes on the vxr and although they grip well in the wet theyve lasted about 3k and i need to change them again bad choice for a front wheel drive car!!

Some people really rave about them and say they are reasonable in the wet. I had a set on a standard WRX and after a few days of wet use they were took straight off the car and sold. OMG you just couldn't enjoy the car unless the roads were dry. Even in the dry I found they took some serious warming up... but when they were warm they were quality action tyres.
