take it to a local metal shop and either get it stretched out or cut a little off and put a reduction pipe on it.

Ive found a company that do a nice 3" de-cat down pipe and centre cat,
They also sell a part that make the 3" piece mate with the 2.5" standard centre section.

I was wondering if i could make it go 3" all the way back to the prodrive backbox but i dont think i can so im just going to get a 2.5" centre section without the silencer in it.

If going for a 3inch de-cat downpipe it seems a little odd to then restrict the zorts to 2.5inch?

remember it has to be an exhaust company that welds it as it has to be welded with a stainless steel welder.i got a qoute by a local exhaust firm to cut my exhaust off and weld another on and they said £62 inc VAT which isnt bad

good luck

A welding shop/blacksmith can weld a exhaust aswell with mig welder with stainless wire or better looking weld Tig and stainless filler wire

They could of welded it with ordinary mild steel but the weld would rust

If you are having a new exhaust system (down pipe and centre) why not get a back box to match?

i prefer big back boxes,a 5-6" slash cut slanted to one side rocks my boat, only on a scooby tho as its like the only good sounding car about.

i know a few guy's that have taking the big back box off there car and got a smaller one and got the edge rolled like the prodrive one,not my taste but everyone's different.

i hate the oval shape that i currently have :puke:

Not only would it rust (corrode). But it would corrode at an alarming rate. When mixing metals in this way, a galvanic reaction occurs and the less noble metal (in this case the carbon steel) corrodes at an accellerated rate. The rate depends on the mass ratio of the metals.

I'm an inspector of pressure systems and inspect piping every day. One of the main things we see is where stainless steel pipe has been bolted together with carbon steel nuts and bolts which have almost corroded through totally.

didn't realise that...I knew mixing ally with steel fixings has a bi-metallic reaction and just welds itself solid over a period of time...but didn't know SS and MS have that dramatic effect.

everday is a school day on here!

Here is a photograph of a 40mm carbon steel nut & bolt, bolted though a stainless steel flange (the flange is painted so it doesn't actually look like SS).

Image

The nut is about 7 years old, so that's how quickly carbon steel corrodes when in contact with stainless steel. I should imagine an exhaust would corrode through in less than a year.
