Postby ian1965 » Wed Aug 12, 2009 6:45 am

My love for fast cars the open road, and being outside in the open, ie camping, why does no one make a towbar for the wr1, ( i dont wna c it wen its fitted, so a detachable one would be best, any one got any idears, i dont wna buy another car just for towing, as i like taking my pride and joy away. I await ure comments :(

A) it would look like a c0ck on the back of your pride and joy.
B) Do subaru not state 'no towing' or something like that in the user manual?

That is just a foolish response Mark. I've seen pics of a Scooby towing a caravan on the SMACS website. I'll try and find out about the towbar for you.

I've spoke to a blobeye STI owner, who had one fitted, he had a detachable one which looked not too bad once the bit was removed.
Reckoned it was only a couple of bolts to fit / remove.

Subaru were doing an an offer a while back on official kits.

you can get a tow bar, a normal impreza one would fit, i have a couple of customers with sti's with towbars, they only use them for bike racks or motorbike trailers. but caravans  no no :nono:

There was a pic on this forum of a detachable tow bar, looked quite discrete and thinking of doing it myself.

Think Swede posted it up

its up to yourself mate, personally i wouldnt fit it to the wr1 but i would buy an old uk turbo wagon or legacy that already had one fitted, you can pick one up for like 1-1.5k,dearer than fitting a towbar yes but ones someone finds out its been on your car they'll walk away.i see what you mean tho, take the tent to somewhere nice,un-hook the trailor and go for a nice drive.

good luck (dont think you'll be doing any camping soon way this weather)
