Turbo timers..........yes or no?????

My attempt to answer:
I believe so, as they allow the turbo to spin down and before the engine stops thus prevent metal to metal grinding. So affectively prolonging the live of the turbo. Reason not standard is probably due to safety and insurance purpose of having a car running unattended.
However, if you just drive easy in the last few miles before turning the engine off, then a turbo timer isn't necessary.

You should be allowing the car to cool before turning of anyway, so why spend £100 for a little display to tell you to do it?
The last few miles of your journey take it easy & try & stay of boost then give it some time when you stop. If you've been ragging it then stop give it 3-4 mins before switching of, thats all a turbo timer will tell you.
Stick the stereo on listen to some music & watch the track timer on the stereo to see how long its been cooling.
They have to work with your alarm if you want to lock it while its still cooling & think there is some probs doing so with the alarm fitted as standard on scoobs.
Its just a novelty that the car can turn itself of while your out of it.
Also some insurance companies don't like them & will void your policy.
Other cheaper option is buy a 3 minute egg timer, when you stop turn it over on the dash then you can watch the pretty coloured sand trickling down into the bottom as it counts down
Beats watching a digital display counting down
Also as well as timing the cooling of your car you will also leave the car feeling relaxed & chilled out from watching the pretty coloured sand

The reason for letting the turbo cool is that the turbo has a feed of oil running through it, when the turbo is running on boost the exhaust side runs very hot, if you allow the turbo to cool when hot it does so with a flow of oil going through it, if you just turn of there is no flow of oil running through it & the oil that is in it just cooks due to the high heat from the hot turbo & leaves deposits that end up blocking up the turbo bearings & oil lines.
