I have a standard WR1 and was quoted £4K to get 400BHP by scoobyclinic or £6K by RogerClark. Everyone said to go with RogerClark over the others due to their experience and reputation. If I could get 400BHP for around 3K reliably id probably go for it but as others have had probs at around 400bhp when the cars are pushed hard and the fact the upgrade done properly is double my budget i wont be doing it just yet unless a lottery win occurrs... :)

Budget and power don't fit in the same sentence IMHO

Having said that, maybe Adam could put the spec up of B's car. That was a budget car that gave good figures. His name began with B???

Give Alan or Martyn a bell at www.enginetuner.co.uk a bell, got a few around at over 400bhp on standard internals.

Have a word with Andy Forrest & he'll talk you through options & stick with Andy for remap his work is never questioned.

Andy still runs a standard sti top mount on his road car running 450bhp.

md321h turbo
650cc injectors or uprated fuel reg(injectors being the safer option)
gt spec headers/up pipe
full 3" bore turbo back exhaust
cold air induction
colder spark plugs(if you haven't already)
fmic(optional)

that will probably be the spec andy forrest will recommend.
i followed the same route when i had my "1",ran that spec with the standard tmic and was fine but the map is compromised by the safety margin needed with the tmic.changed to a front mount and had the map tweaked to suite and made quite a difference.
iirc andy was able to apply more boost in the lower-mid rev range which gave the car quite a bit more grunt and made it more aggresive to drive.
mine ran just over 400 on the tmic and just under 420 with the fmic.
andy done all my mapping, car drove great and the engine never once missed a beat.
hope this helps

Just out of curiosity, why have you decided on the figure of 400bhp?

it is quite a lot cheaper to get a more driveable car that goes well running at 360-380 without getting up to the 400's where reliability and things become an issue.

You get what you pay for in the end my WR1 has been running 487bhp for 5years,its never missed a beat, drives like a standard car if you want and goes like a rocket when you feel the need.
I would say that 400bhp would be a good road car spec though.
