Standard Brakes

Postby Bonnie Scotland » Fri Apr 29, 2005 9:25 pm

Is it just me  or, do others find the standard brakes just not quite suitable to the performance :?:
I've tried warming the brakes, good fun etc, but just feel that heavy braking from 70 ish :P down is not dynamic
I haven't failed, i've merely found 10,000 reason's why it didn't work

It might be an idea to look at upgrading the pads, hoses and fluid. It'll be cheaper then putting bigger calipers on.

How much dearer would the pads be for the Prodrive kit? The standard Brembo ones are bad enough!

I never found any problems with stopping with the standard breaks, they got a testing on a track day at Snetterton and in the Illeagal Yorkshire Rally ;)

The only problem i found was they kept siezing up in the winter, if left for more than a day, they rusted and siezed, mostly down to the Salt on the roads at the time.

Maybe add some softer Pads, Go for TAROX they are very good.

Check the brake archives on scoobynet. EBC do not appear to have a great reputation. My mate fitted red stuff to his PPP'd WRX and they were down to the metal in under 2 months (hard miles mind but still atrocious wear rates).

There are various threads on Scoobynet about premature wear and whether the brakes in question really were the latest spec ceramic red stuff or the older non ceramic versions in the latest boxes. If you do go red stuff then it would appear you need to make sure they are really the latest spec and don't just take the sellers word for it.

No involvement in the company but for the best brakes I'd say go for Pagid RS4-2-1. They'll cost twice as much but if they last four times as long that's a bargain.

i have heard rumors on brake wear... but all the scoobies we have done have had the red stuff ceramic pads on... and there has not been any problem with the wear rate or anything else.
