Not sure if they use different oil in a wr1, I wouldn't of thought so. but its usually semi-synthetic.

Which is why you always have problems.

Only use Castrol 0W40. Best you can have. Even the guys at Shell will tell you

Not an issue, but it depends on your use.

I used Castrol 0W40 all the time and at idle (warm), the oil pressure would always be a stable 1 bar.
Towards the end of the life of the oil, the pressure would drop slightly under 1 bar (but still give a stable reading), in which case I knew the oil now started becoming too liquid.

Steve Hill put Shell Helix 5W40 in the car 2 weeks ago and the oilpressure is all over the show. It not only drops well below 1 bar at idle, but also seems to vary much more.

And I am not the only one I hear having much better experiences with Castrol.

And what is your bad experience with Castrol ?

It's prob because they are so cr@p that the engineers at Shell's lubricants department thought Castrol still made better oil than they did

If you send an email to Opie Oils describing the car and the type of driving you do, the lads will reply with their suggested oils. (Oilman on forums)

I bet number one will be Silkolene Pro-S 5w40 its a bit expensive now but they will tell you why it's an excellent choice.

Ask about a less expensive good alternative for day to day use...(and a few odd blasts added here and there !!!) and I think you'll be offered Motul 8100 X-cess 5W-40 100% synthetic. Both are ester based oils... just ask them why you should use Ester based oils and be ready for a technical lecture !

Funny you say that. I was talking to the Subaru dealer here and he refused to recommend the Evo X as a sporty saloon too :?

As for cost, you must a complete tw@t to get a car with a 2 litre 350+bhp engine, spend stupid money on mods and then save a few pence on the most important item to keep the engine in good condition. :shake:

You are such a cock !

Read the above reply regarding "oilman"

He laughed at me for suggesting castrol, the more superior oil and dearest, Silkolene and Motul are far better oils and cheaper !

I'm pretty sure my local Subaru approved service centre will use Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40. Would this be ok, or am I better provided them with alternative oil? :?
