I don't forsee any issue using that, but silkolene or motul is probably cheaper than dealer prices.

Just had mine serviced at hypertech in bonniebridge silkolene pro r 15w 50 he swears by it, mine runs about 350bhp slight mods, Scutches old car.

15/50..........in our engines...........at THIS time of the year...

I bet Oilman would have something to say about that ! :shock:

Very respected subaru tuner and thats what he recommended, car only used at weekends.

Subaru always put 5/30 motul fully synthetic oil in mine, My choice and theres,

Anything more than 5/30 will only cause damage,

Like 5/40 5/50 they have additives in them to make them thicker, But the additives will break down to less than 5/30 :shock:

Where as 5/30 has no additives so can't break down any less than 5/30!

Trust me i know a man who works for an oil company and knows oil like bro knows how to cook a good BBQ...

Oilman got back to me and said, If the car is post 2002 it should really be on Pro S 5w-30 or 5w-40 unless very heavily modified.

How many litres of oil does the impreza require?? is silkolene the best to go with.

4.6 litres I think it is and YES Silkolene ProS 5W-40 is considered by many to be the best however, it's pricey. Ask Oilman for a price and compare it with the Motul 8100 X-cess 5w-40. Both are fully synthetic quality oils but Motul is a LOT cheaper.

So the Motul 5w-40w is a perfect shout. Opinions get you concerned that you get it wrong.

Should i put any Engine flush through?

Yep i've got motul in mine 5/30 :D
Got it serviced before i stored it away for winter,

I am a believer in you get what you pay for.... however, I am willing to be educated :lol:

If something is cheaper there is usually/generally a good reason.. are there any disadvantages in going for Motul over Silkolene (or any other more expensive oil for that matter)? Or have Motul oils just made their product a lot more efficiently through their supply chain? :?

the 8100 range is a good product but a general full synth oil.........

the equivalent Motul would be the full race type synth 300v oil and this exceeds the Solkolene in performance terms IMO

why buy an expensive car and run it on peanuts......

Just been on the RCM website, and they use silkolene pro r 15w-50 for all their servicing, i think they know what there talking about, just so many different opinions on which oil is best.

I'm using silkolene pro r 15w-50 at the mo, just wondered ealier in previous posts this was the correct oil, mixed response, but a few top tuners are using it so it cant be bad.

The majority use Millers 10/60 I would bet

what is the reason 0w - 40 shouldnt be used. i have 5 litres of Mobil 1 0w - 40 in my garage.

That any use??

personally the lowest oil i would use would be a 5w (in the UK anyways)

its too "thin" generally, without getting into a whole techy debate

This bloody hell reads like a topic sponsored by Opie :roll:

I always use Castrol 0W40 in the Evo. Gives me the most stable oil pressure. All other oils and grades I used tend to give fluctuations in oil pressure and I get different 'behaviour' depending on the circumstances.
