fault code reading

Postby wr1.305 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 7:52 pm

hi guys, a friend of mine has just bourt a bug eye wrx, and has had a engine warning light come on.

i know that under the driver foot well you can connect two cables and get the fault code to flash via the engine warning light on the dash.

what i dont know is what cables he has to connect and how he cam decode the flashing fault code.

any ideas???? hope this is clear.

Wayne's right that only works on classics, there are a green set & a black set of connectors under the dash that you can read fault codes & do a ecu reset with. Unfortunately the newages don't have them so fault codes can only be done with a diagnostics reader. I have a blitz r-vit that plgs into the obd & has this ability as one of its functions.
You can even buy a fault code reader in the Argos catalogue now.

Yea I agree, but I get the feeling your a bit rusty and need to practice before touching your fine example of a car, and with that in mind I am generously offering my car for you to hone your skills on free of charge! Don't thank me now, wait till you have your car finished and immaculate then you could maybe mention my generous donation in your next write up.

It doesn't matter what sort of reader you get as long as it can read the cars ecu, theres so many out there, even cheap on ebay is good enough for finding the fault codes and clearing codes, This is a pretty basic task 8)

This is the basic one I use and keep in the car next to the jack because you never know

Very rarly is it used tho, I find it helpful for other members on our meets who say "they have a cel light on" 8) 8)
