new discs and pads...

Postby Scooby_simon » Sun Jan 18, 2009 8:49 pm

Chaps

Last service sechdule states I need new front disks and pads.= - 50K service is next, car has only done 30K.

As far as I am aware, they are standard at present and I have no real desire to change them, how much should they be and do WR1's eat disks as well as pads; car has done 30K as I said.

I had a major anchors on moment on the motorway when someone lost it in front of me. Should a a set of front disks really last 30K miles?

Also, any good independant's in the Herts area as I'm not sure I can afford Quenby's rates anymore....

From my experience most cars have got to 3/4 of a set of pads by 25-30K miles... discs are normally up to 2 or 3 sets of pads if kept rust free. However if in doubt about brakes don't mess around, get them changed out for some new ones... last thing you need is them to fail when you need them most.

Hi, I've just had a service and needed the pads and disks changing.
Car's done 21K and did have original disks on. I went for TAROX disks and pads cost was about 450 if I remember correctly but not sure if this included the service which was a 35K service in the book (I think)

My local Subaru specialist did say it would eat pads and disks but would be dependent on driving style and as mentioned before rust etc. if the car has been parked for significant amounts of time.

Just had cambelt, tensioner etc done at Quenby's collected today.

Labour rates are £52,00 + VAT for cars over 3yrs old as they want to keep customers, £70.00 If less than 3yrs.

There is a place called Cuzner & White in Welwyn Garden City who work on jap cars, friend of mine has used them for years for his Scooby Evo. Not used them myself.

Im getting a scraping at the rear and it looks like my rear dics are on the way out, are they the same as fitted to the regular WRX? If I get them fitted by the local "greasemonkey" it will be miles cheaper than the Subaru stealer but want to be sure they get the right thing.
Oh and what's a set of rear discs and pads cost?

Try calling Alyn at ASP performance. Mention the WR1oc for a discount if you want to order parts and get them fitted by your monkey.

If you can't find his number I'll post it tomorrow.
