Boost power....

Postby JP » Sun Oct 19, 2008 8:57 pm

Has anyone been experiencing higher boost then set due to the cold weather, particulary early morning or night time?....Mine's gone mental!

I haven't but my boost control is very tightly controlled. It may be that your duty cycles need adjusting as the turbo will find it easier to reach boost target.

When ours was 400bhp last year is would go mental in cold weather hitting over 1.8 bar on the defi's, so I presume it being normal if mapped in a nice warm dyno cell...... wait for the response of the road only mappers

DEFINITELY speak to your mapper !!

re the road mapping versus dyno mapping - if the boost is controlled properly it should not make a difference. Mine hits 2.1 bar on the dyno and the road :D (dont try that at home though guys ;) )

Yes, you need to speak to Pat. And in the meantime don't go silly. 1.8 Bar+ in anything other than a very quick spike could well cause your pistons to fall to bits.

It sould not make a difference, but it often does. If your car spools and responds on the dyno EXACTLY as it does on the road then you are one of a kind...

Well, like this evening when coming back from work, the cold air makes it go to 1.9 bar  .- all hell breaks loose....it just keeps pulling through all the gears like anything. In less cold temps it stays at 1.8.

Mark - Pat set it to 1.7 following the Map Sensor installation. He did say the defis tend to over-read, and this was confirmed on another thread on here. Pat is confident with his mapping, and so far it's been good in terms of power.

When I was visiting RCM, Matt (Olly's Bro) did say it should be fine so as long as I do not keep doing 150mph all the time when all is at peak under the bonnet. Chances of me doing this are very very slim if none!

If it is mapped to that then why describe it as "Mines gone mental"?

Was it mapped on the rollers? Would one not expect a little extra on the road due to the "actual" load compared to the "simulated" load?

If it is mapped to 1.7 and shows 1.8-19 on the road then one seems to think this is what you would approximately expect on the defi gauges?

Are you being over dramatic Mr JP?

Pretty sure it's on one of Scoobyclinic's Garret hybrids and o.e bottom end.

JP, IMHO your car at 1.7 bar (real reading) with peaks at 1.8 in the cold is pushing things to say the least, particularly as you do a bit of 1/4 mile stuff.

I may be wrong, but i suspect it's a SC decision to appease you as you were being a whingeing fooker and probably getting right on Kevs t1ts?

bro's car is doing 400BHP and 380 ft/lb (or something like that) @ 1.5 bar with a similiar sized Garret hybrid.

Mark are you saying "moan moan moan".... crank up the boost to shut him up?

The difference between JPs and my car is that JP researched it until he understood everything. He would have been a tough cookie to pull the wool over hi eyes. I was planning on sending my spec to JP incase he could offer some knowledge. Maybe you two could discuss on my behalf?

Can I pass on your mobile number to JP please? After all, amidst the banter, the idea of the forum is to share and learn from each other.

No, He knows far more than me. Admittedly i could further my own knowledge by speaking to him but i fear it may be at a high price. i.e mental torture and eventual suicide from being stalked.

It is SC's Garret hybrid. I put this thread as I wanted to find out whether anyone else was experiencing anything similar.
