Hello from Belgium

Because I've been recommended by The Swede to join this forum,I decided to register myself.
I'm Giovanni, 32 years old & live in Ypres. I think many of you know this city,because of WW1.
My daily drive is a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI RS. The version without all the electronic stuff (no ABS,airco,airbags,electric windows,etc..). The car is still original but has the same Brembo brakes & seats as the RS2-version. It has also the 17" wheels.
I'll hope to meet you all at Spa one day next year

Actually, he's one of the few dinosaures in belgium who have the guts to drive an Evo or a Scoob (you normally get lynched in belgium for not driving a VW, Audi or BMW diesel... ).

He is looking to once let his beast out on Spa and I suggested he'd join us.

Gives us an extra host and maybe we can drive by Ypres with the gang and taste te roads of the famous rally

Not in the nearly futur I think. I own the Evo since July 2006 & now buying an Impreza WR1 will be very expensive for me. You must know that, if you live in Belgium, you first have to pay 5000€ tax before you can hit the road. The older the car, the cheaper the tax.Still if you buy a MY 2004, they tax you 3469€
And I even don't know if you can have a LHD-WR1.
So for the moment it's a NO

That's gonna be a tad difficult since Subaru never made anything close to a WR1 in LHD...

They sold about 4 STi's in Belgium per year if they were lucky. They even didn't sell the Petter Solberg.

When Martin brought his imposter in at a Belgian dealer, this guy thought all his Christmasses had come in one go!

Quite a bit. if you drive a 'normal' petrol car like a BMW 525i or so, you can hardly sell it in second hand.

Scoobs and Evo's are reasonable on value but are super-rare and are generally only passed on from one 'mysterious enthusiast' to another one.

Unless you go and watch a rally, if you see a scoob in Belgium, you can make a wish. If you see an Evo, you better play the lottery that evening !

That may explain the reaction to Scoobs in some parts of Europe, the "1" brought traffic to a stand still when I took it to Valencia and got quite a reaction in Belgium, France etc.,.. even the Spec D got its photo taken at nearly every fuel stop when I took it out to Le Mans this year - in some places a Scoob seems to create more of a response than the Bora which has surprised me.

I agree what The Swede said: petrol cars have no value here in Belgium.
For example: I recently saw a VW phaeton 3.2 for only 20k €

Seeing a petrol fuelled BMW,Audi or VW is almost as rare as a Chinese pronounces the "R" .

I think Spike, Pooster, Houdini, Dan and co have shown last year that a combination of WR1-gang and locals in Belgium can really make a superb few days out.

The Belgian car enthusiasts love the WR1's and the British attitude towards 'great cars' whereas the WR1 owners generally are very genuine people who are very modest and share their passion also with those not so lucky to have a WR1 (as opposed to certain owners of rice-rockets who only want to show their car is faster than yours).

I think a few Belgian petrolheads around will make it great fun.
