Scoobie newbie - JOEDESIHey guys (are there any gals in here??)
Ive been scanning this forum for a couple of weeks now....its a very cosy environment with real 'feel good' factor. Just thought id introduce myself...its only polite... Ive been a scooby fan for as long as i can remember. Ive always been into fast jap cars and im aiming (one day! ) to get myself one of the last R34 Skylines a Ztune...i know only 20 were built...but i want one! A couple of years ago i bought a '97 classic scooby...i loved every minute of it....the sound...the on boost acceleration! Unfortunately it wasnt welll tuned and soon melted piston 3. I bought a second hand engine from some unscrupolous dealers in nottingham. turned out to be a dud. Cost a lot of money to put right. Had to sell the damn thing in the end. Since then ive recovered (financially!!) and am now in the market for either a WR1 or P1. (or T25 - Stop dreaming ) im in no rush tho. will take my time and will def want a warranty this time!! Anyway thats enuf about me...tell me about yourselves. Any of you guys owned both a P1 and WR1...which would you recommend and why? Best wishes Joedesi
Hi ya fella.
Welcome to the site. There are a couple of ex P1 owners on here. I'm sure they will make themselves known in due course. The WR1s are coming to the end of their 3 year manufacturers warranty unless people take on the extended warranty... Or you buy a used car from a Subaru dealer and then you get a years warranty. Before you purchase any car it is worth posting the registration and/or unique build number (1 of 500) as someone might be able to tell you a little history on the car.
welcomewelcome to the site fella
my friend had a P1 which i drove quite alot before getting my WR1 - they are both fantastic cars, the P1 is a little more all or nothing than the wr1 with slightly harder damping and less torque before the turbo wakes up. the wr1 is slightly more refined with another gear, more low-end torque and slightly softer (easier to live with damping) if it's a daily driver. one thing with the wr1 that i have noticed and have now learned to drive around (by driving more sensibly!) is that due to the amount of torque it has, its quite tail happy if you really boot it around a bend. Can't really comment on this with the p1 as it wasn't my car and i didn't give it any beans other than in a straight line. i prefer the wr1 as its easier to live with daily, has an extra gear (for all the difference it makes) and looks fresher, where the classic shape is now dated and alot more common... hope this helps wlecome again Griff

Thanks very much. For me, the warranty is an issue...if i buy a private WR1 (i dont like dealer prices!) that has FSSH, can i buy an extended warranty from subaru uk? I def think i should buy one soon because once the new 2008 hatchback scoob comes out it def push UP prices of the older ones! What a dog. i think i almost cried.
Hi and welcome. Yes there are a few girlies on the site Misti, Rosy B and also the WAGS of some of the other members - but why do you ask? Are you a girlie - or are you on the pull Mark mark swings both ways so both options are available to you
Heaven can wait....I'm playing with my scooby.
Thank you Chris B
If you are looking at a Subaru warranty, then you will struggle for a P1 as there are very few around with it on. The WR1 is a better car - more reliable, stronger, more comfortable, does not look as dated. Performance wise as standard, there is nothing in it. i have not owned both, but i know a few people who have. Comments are generally the WR1 is a lot nicer to live with, you are not worried about it blowing up BUT the P1 is a lot more fun, don't have the same connection or afinity withthe WR1 as they did the with the P1 etc.. Using your head - it would be a WR1 every time, Use your heart and it's not as clear cut. All IMHO as i have not owned both. If JP is Roland Rat, them I am Errol the Hamster... His number 1 fan.
Sorry to disappoint Chris.....im no girlie!
Was just wandering how many women own a WR1 (thats not their Bf's) Mark - thanks for the sensible advice. However if you started a thread "buy P1 with ur heart.....and a WR1 with ur mind" Might get a few responses!!
Hi Joedesi, all have given sensible info
But if a 1 is what you want then there is only one 1 worth buying and that is a 1 with a WR innit 2007 BMW M5

I agree....an absolutely stunning car at a v good price
The more time i spend on this site the more I think im moving towards WR1...
Get it on your drive!
OK OK!!

Joe, Im a WR1 owner, and I had a P1 for 6 months when they first came out back in 2000.
To me, both feel very different, dare I say it the P1 felt faster, but I cannot confirm this, as the Wr1 is deceptively fast. Both handle very well, less plow on over steer with the WR1 though. Obviously without doubt, Id choose the WR1 as there is no substitute for the latest diffs and technology. If your a decent driver, just lock the diffs on the WR1 and you could go berserk if you wanted to, im long past all that and my WR1 is treated like a baby, ive got my gearchange warning beep set at 6250rpm, LOL
Using your logic I'll set my rev warning light at 4k revs when I come to sell the car.... Once careful owner. PMSL.

pmsl, I noticed ant had it set at 4000 rpm, he's a funny guy
Certainly made me chuckle, the cars also got an ecu monitor, so I checked Ant's top recorded speed, 59.9mph I think he was having a laugh surely !! Ant ???!!!
I think Ant holds some sort of record for speed driving... BACKWARDS!
