284 - new custodian

Postby LordG » Thu Aug 15, 2013 9:53 pm

Hi everyone,

Very pleased to introduce myself as the new owner of 284. I travelled from just north of Birmingham to Southampton to meet Dave and see the car. Dave is top bloke, met me at the station and we spent the best part of 1.5hours chatting and going round the car - thanks Dave.

Never owned a Subaru before, so I am at the start of a huge learning curve - you will have to bear with me.

Like the majority on here, I have a love of cars. My background is mainly in BMW and VAG. But to my surprise my current daily driver is a Ford Mondeo ST220, and I absolutely love it. The latest addition to the family (284) will be my 'other' car - for sunny days/evenings/weekends.

I am rather OCD with cleaning and making sure everything is as it should be (like most on here I guess). I am also a big fan of finding local specialist garages and I have been pointed in the direction of Chevron Motorsport in Stafford, so booked in to the see them in 2 weeks, just to give the car a once over and make all is good.

About the car: very good condition inside and out, FSH etc etc needs a few things doing like refurb rims, install new stereo - I guess you may know more about 284 than me - :D

I have 3 lads aged 10,14 and 17 and their reaction was priceless when I turned up home with a new car (they had no idea) 8)

Anyway, great to be here and looking forward to getting to know you all.

Cheers
Neil

cant even compare them, its like comparing a Butcher knife with a surgeons scapel.

The ST220 is a fantastic everyday, up and down the motorway car. The V6 is superb and sounds lovely with a Miltek exhaust.

The WR1 (only after a 3 hour drive) is just a different totally beast. Handling, power, ride, sound track, feedback is all so different. Better? not sure, don't want to compare because I brought the cars for very different reasons.

So, they are both fantastic cars for what I need them for

You will need to learn how to drive the wr1 fast compared to a typical rapid fwd car. Suggest you do a track day in the wr1 and get an instructor to show you how to drive it fast. Once you get the technique grasped not a lot will keep up with you on the twisties as it does handle very well.
