New lad from Somerset! WR1 FQ340 or 2.5 WRX STI?

Postby Smasher » Thu Feb 11, 2010 9:55 am

Hi all,

Been reading up and allot of useful info on here.

I am currently on the lookout for either a WR1 or a 2006 2.5 WRX Sti, or a 2005 FQ340.

If anybody has owned a combination of any 2 of these your thoughts on them for comparrison would be much appreciated.

cheers Smasher.

Danr55 has had all three.

What are you going to be using the car for? Daily communting? Track work? Occasional spirited driving?

I will be only using it for daily commute 15 mile round trip, and a bit of sprited driving now and then, never on track.

For daily driving some might suggest the 2.5 is a better car. I personally prefer the higher revving nature of the 2.0. The downside to the 2.0 is that it costs more for a "stage 1" type performance modifications.

Similarly, the Evo is cheaper to modify for some initial performance gains.

Head and heart decision is what it is all about.

Thanks Bro,

I wouldn't be looking to modify any of them, I have had a couple of Subaru's so you could say I am a bit attched to them, but I have always liked the look of the WR1, and I want an Evo to say I have been there and found if they are better or not.

I looked at buying the 2.5 Sti brand new, and have always kept on eye on them price wise, I am glad I didn't buy one new now after the price drop. I have seen some really nice ones for about 13K.

I've had a 99 2.0 sport it was only 3 years old when i got it, and a couple of years back I brought a 93 WRX of a mate 280bhp awsome bit of kit.

I will post some pics up of some of the nicer cars I have had. Best of all at the moment was a Skyline R34 full nismo kit, i was nearly in tears when I sold it to buy a bigger house!! Currently I have an RX8, anybody looking for one!!

If he wants a faster car with worse reliability on comparison with WR1 the evo should be bought.

or WR1 and mod to suit.
