Rally blue

Postby WR1 Bro » Thu May 08, 2008 12:16 pm

Clark,

What would you recommend in the way of wax or sealant for a rally blue WRX? I notice the Jeffs is said to be better for lighter colours.

Also, what would you use on a dark grey met Audi? The easier the application for this car the better.

With the Jeffs sealant, when would you use the carbauba? and when would you use the acrylic?

Your thoughts would be welcomed.

Cheers,
Stu.

Hi mate 8)

For the blue, it depends on what kind of look you want from it?

The Werkstatt Acrylic would still look great on that particular colour, giving a very reflective look with mega flake pop, but the depth of shine wont be as deep as some other products can produce:

If it were my car then i would go for Blackfire Wet Diamond, which again is a sealant but this produces a very wet, reflective and glossy look to the paint. Plus if you want even more wetness and depth you can top it with Blackfire Midnight Sun wax which has been designed specifically to work on top of the wet diamond and this will boost durability too.

This is a link to scoobynet where a customer posted pics of his car after using the Blackfire products:

The Blackfire is by far the easiest products to use and if you need any more pics for examples then just give me a shout as i'm sure there's some kicking about on the computer somewhere :D

As for knowing which Werkstatt Sealant to use:

For solid colours such as red for example, then use the carnauba range, as this will give a warm deep glow to the paint which suits solids better.

Use the Acrylic on metalic paints and light colours such as white/silver/Ice blue etc

On dark grey, either the Blackfire or Werkstatt Acrylic would look good so its a personal preference really in what kind of look you want to go for. Wet and glossy (Blackfire) or Sharp and reflective with great flake pop (Werkstatt Acrylic).

Hope that helps, any more questions feel free to ask 8)

Thanks Clark... great info.

I've just ordered some of the Jeffs Carnauba to use between coats of Zymol on the WR1. I know you don't approve but I like the finish it gives the WR1 and I also like the long lasting protecting qualities..... For example, tar just jets off. I'm hoping the Jeffs carnabua will compliment the Zymol?

Granted, not to your standard but I'm proud of it!!

I've also ordered the Autosmart Tardis as a result of your thread to give it a try out.

I'll pass on your recommendations to my Audi friend...

I personally find that the wet looks can look too artificial and tend to look like they are sitting on top of the paint, whereas the carnuaba wax seems to be a one with the paintwork. I will also try the Jeffs on the Blue WRX and see what it comes up like. I want an product that is easy to apply so my mom can keep it topped up inbetween me waxing the car when I see her.

Thanks again, good to have you on the site.

Cheers,
Stu.

Glad to be of some help mate :)

Dont get me wrong, Zymol produce some cracking waxes and other products and up untill the beginning of this year we were Licensed Zymol Detailers and Re-sellers, it's just that the general opinion is that sealants will give you a nicer look than a wax on a light metalic. This doesnt however mean that you HAVE to go down that route, and as the pics of your car show - you do still get a fantastic finish.

If my car was a daily driver i'd have probably put a coat of Vintage on just purely for durability, but the Werkstatt will give 5-6 months durability after 4 or 5 coats anyways so it's no big deal :)

The Werkstatt should be fine for your mum as it's very easy to go on and come off, plus it takes only 10 mins to do the whole car 8)
