Waxing

Postby Gazman2054 » Thu Jan 04, 2007 7:44 am

Morning gang.
I have never used wax and im always up for some good advice.
I have a bottle of zymol HD cleeaner to wash the car in this first and get her ready for the wax.
Thing is how to use wax?
Im guessing its not like in the karaty kid (wax on wax off set up)
I know you put a small bit in your hands to warm it up.
But then what???
and how do i know its dry???
Because it has to be buffed before it dry's.
I have a zymol 3 cloth pack but dont know which cloth is for what.
Do i have to wax and buff one panel at a time???
As you can tell i have a lot of questions.
HELP PLEASE!!!
Ta...

Hi Gazman,

There is good info for each of the products on the Zymol site.

Anyway:

Cleaner:
- Put some cleaner on your pad and rub in length of the panel. This strips the car of remainders of incompatible wax.
- Buff up when dry, still rubbing in the direction of the panel (never in circular movements).

Wax:
- Put a littlebit of wax in your hand, rub them against eachother to melt it and rub it then onto a piece of panel in length of the panel again.
- Leave it for about 30-60 secs.
- The wax should NOT be allowed to dry completely in fact as you will rub it in with your microfibre.
- Then take the microfibre folded and rub with firm pressure (not too much obviously) and slowly to buff up the wax.
- Important: after 3-4 hours, buff the car again with the microfibre ! This will ensure the wax was completely cured and avoids sticky finger marks afterwards or half cured wax that washes off with the first rain.
- Do small parts of car at the time. As a 'reference', with the amount of wax the size of a peanut, you can do your bonnet. First time, you might need a little bit more (never more than twice).

Also look at this video.

This guy does the waxing as it should be done. (drying time is longer for him though)

Also try this link and click anywhere on the text or pot of wax. A pop-up will come up and will give you the info on how to use.
