How much cleaning is too much cleaning?

Postby Steveyk » Wed Oct 12, 2011 10:20 am

I wash my 1 most weekends and sometimes it hasn't even moved. I'll clay it and wax it once every month. I'll take the wheels off every couple of months and clean the inside of the rims. I do my best to keep the engine clean too.

Am I ill? My neighbour has never cleaned his car in 5 years and he thinks I'm mental. I'm starting to get paranoid...

When I had my black evo it used to get washed:

Saturday morning,
Sunday morning and sometimes Sunday evening!

Along with once during the week in summer!

I hated that it showed the dusty film when sat there for more than 10minutes! It had a wicked purple/gold metallic flake 8)

OMG - this car had more paint because of parking dinks than any car I have ever known.

Whoops, needs a new bumper
Whoops, needs a new set of alloys
Whoops, needs a new bonnet

I watched Spike clean this car. Worst cleaning method I have ever seen. Only fractionally more useless that The Swede with a spanner.

Besides, all the glory of the shine goes to the pro detailer. Spike, you can't take any credit.

You hadn't cleaned it for that pics though had you mike? ;)

Waxing and sealing as much as you want is a good thing but polishing isn't. Claying every month is OTT too.
Going round corners just got a whole lot faster...

But the clay fetches the tar off the lower doors a treat! Why is this OTT?

What's the difference between a polish and a wax? I use Meguiars Carnauba wax but I just call it polish...

Polish = Correction
Wax/Sealant = Protection

More peotection = Less correction.

A little like CSA v Condom
