Polisher...

Ok, so my dad's got one of these, can I use it for applying polish (I am by no means going to attempt compounding, most likeley AG-Super Resin Polish...)

It seems a bit fast:

Oribtal throw is 5mm.
No-load speed: 4.500 - 12.000 rpm

I really don't want to stretch to purchasing one.

I plan on using menzerna polishing pads, etc.

i cant see why you cant use it just use it on its lowest speed as that seems rather high and just go carefully on it not applying too much pressure

Keep the speed low and watch for heat build up...

The "detailing" DA's usually max out at around 6,000 orbits and that's as much as you ever need so dont go daft 8)
Going round corners just got a whole lot faster...

Ok...

I have purchased 2x orange mezerna pads and 1x yellow one.

I plan to use the (WR1oc hated) Autoglym Super Resin polish.

I am not looking for full paint correction, just want to get a good polish.

Do you think the orange pad an the SRP will give some good results...?

I'm going have my first attempt on the roof of the car as I've no protection it at all... It's going to be foamed, 2 bucketed, clayed, polished with SRP and DA, Autoglyms Extra Gloss Protection then Autoglyms HD wax.

Was thinking of keeping it on it's lowest setting, is 4,500 the same as 4,500 orbits?

I'd have tried the yellow finishing pad first mate as the WR1 paint is soft (and thin in places!) as shit.

I'd also try that sander on a scrap bonnet (or someone elses car at least :lol:) first as I'm not 100% keen on that to be honest mate and you dont want to go taking off too much paint or going through the paint all together!

The orbits isnt so much the issue - it's the throw of the machine that is important when it comes to heat build up. The likes of the Kestrel and Meguiars machines have large throws (cant remember what they are off the top of my head, will have to check at work tomoro) so heat build up is pretty low...

I'll do the bonnet on my missus' 206SW first.

I know the paint on hers is hard as nails as I tried cutting a scratch out of it with AG's Paint Renovator and it took ages, I had a simlar scratch which came out really easily on mine...

How much cut has SRP got in it?

not a huge amount but enough to remove light scratches. It's a jack of all trades and master of none really as it has a bit of cut, some filling ability and a bit of protection thrown in for good measure.

Pug paint is around the intermediate level for hardness 8)

Yes, keep feeling the panel you're working on and if it gets any more than just warm then back off - especially on plastics :wink:

Ok.... Have been looking on some detailing sites and some people have been using this model and have had good and safe results with it....

if I SRP an already protected panel (AG EGP + HD Wax). Will it remove it? I waxed my car a while back, it's still on, but I want to remove it so I can do a better job of claying and cleaning... Thinking of washing the car each week and polishing/detailing just 1 panel each time.

It'll remove most of it but if you're claying the car this will remove it all anyways 8)

Are them orange pads just velcro backed?
