Would this be suitable for polishing the WR1 with AutoGlyms Paint Renovator? Followed by AutoGlyms Super Resin Polish.

It's a dual-action one I think.

If so, how would you do it? It appears to be flat - how would you polish the contours without polishing the 'corners' too much?

What pads should I get for it?

Take a quick look at the polished bliss site for pads etc... they sell the machines too but will give you an idea of the pads available (sizes, spindle reqs etc).

I'm guessing that you've never done this before? (I haven't and wouldn't want to try unless it was an old car which didn't matter if I cocked up!!) A mate of mine tried his hand at it and royally cocked it up, cost him £500 to fix it (I did laugh)

Thats an actual sander for sanding wood doors etc not polishing.

Have a look at the polished bliss site & there is a duel action machine for not much more than the sander your looking at. You'll get all the pads you neeed from them to & there are detailed guides on how to do it all.

I used my mates one a few months ago but only used a finishing polish to be on the safe side as i was just loking for a better finish than i could get by hand not full correction i'll leave full correction to the pros like Clark.

I am aware that it's a sander for wood etc, but what's the difference? It's random orbital, accepts the pads and has a speed dial thing...

I'm keen on this one as all my other tools are Makita and would like to keep with them...

Do the other polishers do something else as well?

My first ever shot on a rotary was a Kestral Sim180 with maguires Hard buff pad and i just went for my Cayman bonnet, never had a problem.

I did my whole car got rid of all swirl marks with no danger. My only advantage maybe that i polish marble and granite at my work which may have given me a basis for technique.

I need to get a smaller backing plate and smaller 4" pads but dont know where to get them from!!!

The difference between that makita and the likes of the meguiars and kestral dual actions that most enthusiasts use is the size of the "throw". If it has too short a throw then it could still produce a significant amount of heat which obviously isn't ideal.

I'd suggest taking a look at the FAQ section on the polished bliss website and have a look on detailing world/ detailing paradise for any more info. Also ditch the idea of using autoglym with the machine as there's far better products available.

you'll have most likely got rid of the swirls as you'll have taken too much paint off mate lol, a soft polishing pad would have done it - especially on a cayman which tends to have soft and sticky paint, much like the impreza...

Clark - if I ditch the orbital idea completley, am I going to get anywhere with Autoglyms Paint Renovator followed by Super Resin Polish and just using elbow grease?

Mav, don't mention Autoglym-anything to Clark, he's not exactly a fan of the brand...

Have to agree with him though, there are much better products out there.
