Two things on that:

1. Virtually all WR1's have an uprated exhaust. An apples to apples comparison is needed. Check an Evo 9 with a barking loud exhaust against a WR1 and you'll find both sound 8)
Actually, pooster would recognise the Evo sounds more like a Gr.A than the Scoob. Although that has a lot to do with the fact that a standard road scoob sounds better than the muted-WRC Impreza

2. I am still puzzled on the quality comments. What is wrong with the Evo 9. I am normally really critical on cars but I find the 9 very well built. Much better than our 03 STi was. What parts are you refering to ?

As much as I've LOVED being allowed to play about in a rather nice EVO IX... Everthing from driving the car to closing the door gives you a "feeling" of inferior build quality... Granted this feeling may be unjustified as this is all from ride and touch... Not from actually taking the nuts and bolts out and then forming an opinion! But hey... I saw you trying to take your mudflaps off your STi so I know you have significantly lesser spanner skills than me.

True, the mudflaps were a bitch to take off.

As for the doors, it's funny you say so, but I always found slapping the doors in the scoob was the moment I was given the impression it wasn't well put together. Most probably due to the lack of frames around the windows.
I find the doors on the Evo slam shut in a much more reassuring way.

Personal taste and variances between cars may work here.

I found the quality of our scoob inside no good. The materials were really 1980's and it was even as if they had really already been produced back then.

I think these cars are actually really put together with performance in mind first and hence, the quality might be much more inconsistent than on the 'normal' cars.

That being said, the one thing I must agree upon is that under the skin, the Evo does not feel bulletproof in the same way as the scoob did. I'd torture the scoob without ever having the impression it'd go 'bang'. I wouldn't dare to do that with the Evo.

Good points mate.

The escort was sold a few years back, she was a beauty I have to say, but the clambering over the roll cage to get in was a nightmare, and of course I blew it up about 3 weeks into ownership.

It was on full boost, down a straight for about 3 miles at 150mph + moments after that steam began to flow from the bonnet vents, LOL I cracked the block you name it, wrecked it.

So new engine was thrown in and she's still going great now for the current owner, he does track days in it.

Regards the subaru - evo battle, well what can I say here, I have owned a few of each, still got my evo 5, I havent actually driven an Evo 9 so I cannot really comment if they are built tougher or with better feel that there predecessors, all I can say is the ones ive had, have always need some job or other done to them, and I feel its pretty well recognised that mitsu as a whole build a lesser car than toyot and subaru.

I actually think the opposite to you, in that the WR1's doors clunk and close better and with a firmer feel than the Evo's ive driven/owned.

I also agree, an aftermarket exhaust on a evo totally and utterly transforms the car.

Right now mine needs brakes, so thats the next expense
