New car 1moro - not a Scooby tho

Postby Burbs » Thu Oct 12, 2006 10:19 pm

Picking up my new car tommorrow or Saturday hopefully.

Not yet seen the car as the dealer has bought it down from Birmingham apparently. Have paid the deposit and got a phone call to say that it arrived at 4pm today so all being well it should be ready for collection Friday afternoon.

It is a Techno Violet M3 Evolution 1997 Coupe. Not much else to say about it at the moment as i havent seen it and never drove an M3 yet.

Heard from Gary Moulson and hope to be able to get some insurance sorted out with him tommorrow as well.

The last BMW i bought was the 330ci Convertible and i got slagged off a treat on here so hopefully this is a better purchase!!!!

Picked it up tonight. Liking it a lot, however a bit disappointed with the seats, they are kind of dark tan, like old mans leather (im only 24) if you see what i mean?!? Probably dont understand but i know what i mean.

Other than that the 40 mile drive home was smooth and the car is pretty quick. Erm......Not being Jeremy Clarkson i dont really know what else to type to be honest. What other things should i comment on? I will be taking photos and putting them up 2moro.

I am having a right pain with insurance at the moment. Having rang Gary at Keith Michaels 6 times in 2 days and leaving name and number each time and not having 1 call returned i decided i needed to go elsewhere!!. I have spoken to Gary via Scoobynet PM but unfortunatly he still hasnt got back. I got

Quite a few bits you can tell us:

- Handling: into corners, out of corners, mid corner stability, traction, sharpness of steering

- Suspension: ride quality, stability, suspension travel, body roll

- Build quality, inside and outside

- Engine character at low, mid and high revs, throttle response,...

- Gearbox: gearing, feel, clutch (feel and quality)

- Practicality,

- ...

Sorry Torrekens, i didnt get chance to take your list and review it to the full deserved extent yet

I have however been out for a little blast this morning and fuc! it is quick.

I know its probably not on a scale of the WR1 and Evo but it is by far the quickest car i have driven and it is mind blowing.

Climbed up a hill today in 3rd at 90 miles an hour, i havent even had the chance to use the 6th gear yet but cannot wait until i do. I have to go snooker today and out tonight so im going to take it down some a roads at some point tommorrow.

Right here we go.

I have driven this car all day today. Had a family party this evening and decided not to drink so as i could drive (sad i know!!). Also had to take every member of the family out in it also to show them what it can do. Therefore i know feel as though i am able to give a better review following Torrekens guide.

Gearbox is not completly smooth to be honest. Dont get me wrong it does go into gear without me having to hit it with a sledgehammer, however it does seem a bit stiffer than i would have thought it should have been. The clutch seems pretty tight so not sure if i have a gearbox problem but will get it checked out when i can.

The engine is amazing. I can be chugging along at 30mph and put my foot to the floor and be hitting 100 without thinking about it. It is very very quick and i love that aspect. There is no hanging around once you put your foot down. Not sure of any technical terms as you can see but insert as you go along.

The interior is lovely, except for the seating problem which i mentioned earlier which is slightly disappointing me but hey i will get over it. I have since found out that the seats were an added option at a cost, not sure if its true but i wouldnt have paid extra for them. The best part about the car is the jet black ceiling, i love it.

Outside is pretty much blemish free, there are a couple of stone chips but nothing to write home about. Having had a friend decide to lie on the bonnet earlier has kind of pi$$ed me off but other than that all is well.

The car is a lovely ride. Having driven an RS Turbo and feeling as though i was in a go kart i was kind of expecting the same from the M3 but the ride is amazingly smooth. You cannot feel any bumps and it is kind of a luxury drive.

Practicality - with a 6 year old and the missus wanting us to start trying for a second the issue is that the car will proabably have to go next year but until then im goingto enjoy the car.

The best 9 grand i could ever have spent. Amazing car and very very happy. :D
