1984 Peugeot 205 GTi - rocko

Been thinking for a while now after doing many track days on bikes and cars etc .. local track's and makin trips away to the Nurburring and Spa etc ..

So wanted to build something which will handle well and will be light so a bit nippy so i came up with a 205 GTI with a 306gti6 engine which are around 170 bhp standard

That's not a bad idea, although for less work you could buy a 306GTi-6 or a Clio 172 Cup and just rip out all the trim, back seats etc, whap on some coilovers and sticky tyres, some decent brakes, job's good 'un! Now where's my wallet... :lol:

Bet that 205 goes like a dream when it's done though!

Great work Rocko. Do you have to use a booster seat when you drive? Looks like you will struggle to see over the steering wheel :lol:

Loved the Pug GTI'S. I had the 1.6. Then changed it for a Renault 5 GT Turbo the torque steer was horrendous and they was only 120bhp! but in those days that wasnt bad figures for a hot hatch. Clutch cable snapped every 2000 miles. Used to drive around with 2 spare cables in the boot!! Those were the days! Good luck with the project Rocko. 8)

Been there, done that - it wasnt very good.

TBH if its going to get ripped apart, which it will, no point starting with the most expensive version + the 172 Cup is the lightest.

I've a 1.2 Clio R reg on a SORN that would make a good toy ;)

Currently being used to stop people blocking my driveway, but i actually want to get it working and have some fun :D

Was really tempted to do this to my Williams....but I couldn't bring myself to rip it apart.

Best bet is to grab an older 16V shell, or the Mk1 172 shell.

Plenty of good engines you can drop in easy enough, and with a bit of tweaking then over 220 horses is easily acheived. Love the sound of a nicely set up array of throttle bodies on a high revving NA engine.

I meant use the 182 trophy as a base to strip down and tweak given its supposed to have better suspension etc than the standard one. I assumed older clios arent much dosh anymore as ive seen them go for around 2k in the past. Either way probably the best old small car for track I can think of. The Corsa VXR was great fun at Anglesey :)

The 182 has sachs remote reservoir suspension - which by now will either be nicely knackered or needing a £500 re-build.

I'm thinking ASTs + the R26 engine and box (LSD) sitting in my basement 8) next to meg.

Been collecting a few parts - just need a donor car now.
