I was never really happy with the bonnet pics on my bonnet and now that the central catch has gone it was time to replace them with locking aerocatches. These look much neater and mean I don't have to tape over them for ring trips.

Anyway, today I decided it was time to fit them.

As the locating pics were already there it was relatively easy to decide where to put them. Marked out and ready to chain drill (I dont have a dremel):

After smoothing down with a grinding stone and 3 Layers of bonnet later and one is done:

It is a feature in the ecu that isnt used as standard but as it is so flexible it allowed me to use the existing switch that tells the oe ecu that the clutch is being depressed to impose a temporary rev limit when it is down and to cut fuel and retard ignition. This keeps around 1.5 bar of boost in between gears where it would normally drop to zero.

It basically means when changing up through the gears I can keep my accelerator pedal flat to the floor and not have to wait for the turbo to spool up again for each gear.

Wow that's amazing! Doesn't that cause you to chew your clutch up tho? Sound like doing a launch in every gear :P

It can be set that way, but I have set mine to fade in and out (25milliseconds each way) so that it is slightly less brutal. Mind you the clutch should be able to take it :D

It works nicely IMO.

Got time to refit/amend the splitter to the car the other night:

I honestly have no idea - havent done a 1/4 mile in the car since it was almost std. I would have thought in the 11's though. The car is built for track/road rather than the strip.

No worries, would have thought with the flat throttle shifting you get a fast 0 to 62 time and quarter mile  :thumb:

Neither a less mint car :D :D :D

Yesterday was the day to test and to learn....

I booked Phil Glew's services for the whole day yesterday to teach me a few things about how to drive imprezas fast. Having won Time Attack in 2007 with Zen Performance and won Brands last year with Zen too he seemed the perfect choice.

I am simply over the moon with how it went :D

Phil explained everything that he wanted me to do and I gradually built speed during the morning on low boost settings until the main learning points had stuck. At first, some of his suggestions felt alien but soon clicked and once nailed we moved on to others tips.

Then switched fuel to 50% E85/Tesco 99 and upped the boost and still the car felt balanced and well behaved. Wide was definitely a great plan.

Various tweaks were made to the car during the morning too but we were hardly off track in fairness all day apart from to let it cool down on occasion (and to allow me to take on fluids/food :) )

Fantastic to have a completely incident free day, no dramas, no issues but also to test a few things and to learn lots from Phil. Highlight for me was playing with a Radical for a couple of laps ... he wasnt getting away until I missed a gear change doh.

Some pics taken by Louise:

Great also to give passenger laps to so many people while giving Phil a break and towards the end of the day when i was playing.

Superb day :D but a few things to resolve that were highlighted as needed now....

Its actually not bad to be honest.

But all mags have that element now as the chavs are the only ones with disposable income :D

This week just keeps getting better and better :D

RaceDynamix announce Zen Performance Race Engineering Support

Time Attack club challenge #6 competitor Duncan Graham is proud to announce that ZEN Performance will be commissioned to provide Race Engineer support for Time Attack 2009 series.

Following on from the on-event support at the final round of Time Attack 2008 at Snetterton, Duncan feels that this is a crucial piece of the jigsaw often overlooked and who better to provide this support and guidance than the 2007 champions.

ZEN will use their massive Time Attack experience and knowledge to assist Duncan in engineering the car for the season, assisting with chassis / engine tuning and set-up, along with good old fashioned moral support.

Duncan is very excited about this partnership and the forthcoming Time Attack season that is starting at Oulton Park on the 25th April.

Indeed I am :D
