Just a stupid question. Does an R26 (without R at the end) actually exist?

Original one is R26, newer one R26R.
Newer one is more of a stripped out track day car with no stereo etc. I think !

Looked at a R26 in liquid yellow with black recaros, looked awesome.

That's maybe because the R26 is not a proper driver's car then

Thanks for the update.

When looking at it, I must say I like the R26.R but just the R26 looks a bit boring, another fast hatchback, nothing more.

Yes take the focus std, please take it, its a load of crap and i dont want to hear anymore about the fcuking focus st  THANK YOU  [/quote]

I don't want to upset anyone, but a Renault owner slagging off anybody - Really? I've worked for some manufacturers in my time, but the French only win people over by building a great car that lasts for 18 months - Everyone could do that.

Glad you like it though!

I'm slagging of who?

2 years old now, trackday after trackday, after trackday with nothing more than standard servicing. My scoob and evo cost squillions to track and needed this, that and the next thing upgraded to be any good. Meg works out the box with no mods, full warranty included and no issues to date.

Oh, and not a focus in sight, lol

But really, really want a GTR now, so umming and ahhing about what to do with the meg.

Lol, you took offense at that then! I wonder what the Renault will be like when it's done 145k miles...........

If you like the car then that's all there is to it mate. Thanks for your opinion on my golf though

I'm not being funny mate, i'm not like that. Everyone has an opinion and let's be honest, we can't all like the same things.

I'll pass on the purchase if you don't mind, i've got my heart set on a WR1 - I have to have one! Have you had one or are you just following the forum?

Nah, went for one of these instead...

But friends with 4 or 5 people who had 1s so driven a few and been to a couple of wr1oc events.

On my way out of the forum now tbh, everyone I know seems to be moving on

I do like the Evo's, a few of my mates have had them and i think they're really impressive but you're not really involved in it when driving them hard. Total respect to the technology in them, i just prefer to have the input of a Subaru. If i put into a barrier, at least i know i did it, ha ha!!

Gtr is an awesome piece of kit too. I doubt you'd be disappointed!

I know what your saying with the evos. The FQs are great road cars, but for track work, shouldve gone for an RS or GT tbh. I have much more fun throwing the meg around a circuit than the evo.

Plus, despite what you think, my 20k renault has been waaaaay more reliable than my 40+k mitsubishi. In these economic times thats an important factor.

That's a very good point...

My Evo IX was the most unreliable car I've ever owned!

I can only say that my comment was through pure experience mate. I worked for Renault for years and i was appalled by the faults we were dealing with day in day out - but you've had no issues and you can't say fairer than that.

I don't know what to say about the Evo's. My best mate had a very low mileage 6 and completely cherished it, never abused it etc and he had nothing but trouble with it. Rear diff exploded, AYC pump failed twice, clutch died, flywheel warped - and this was all in the space of 6 months  But then others i've looked after were completely hammered every day and i only ever put clutches in them - not fair really, but that's machines for you i suppose.

What happened with your Evo Lee?

Lots of niggling issues and a couple of serious ones:

1. SmartNav didn't work from new - Replaced.
2. New SmartNav kept setting the alarm off every other night (@ 1am) - Alarm and SmartNav Replaced again......but, it only fixed it for 1 Month. So, I gave up and disconnected the Nav.
3. Car randomly wouldn't start - Several Starter Circuit Relays replaced, until eventually...
4. It cut-out one morning at 60MPH on a fast Right-Hand Bend!......Have you ever tried to stop and steer a car without its Steering Pump or Brake Servo Operating? - Dealer couldn't find the fault, but I did! Poor connection on rear of Passenger Compartment Fuse Box (Which I fixed - Thank Goodness for that Degree in Electronics!)
5. The speedo often refused to work at the start of journeys - A quick stop & restart and all was fine again!
6. The leather on the rear-door cards came adrift - Replaced (eventually) under warranty.
7. The dealer crashed it whilst they were trying to fix the speedo - Didn't do a very good job of replacing the rear bumper or 'straightening' the spare wheel well. Whilst it was with them for a rear bumper refit, the LHS Rear door got dented......and the rear number plate fell-off one day after I picked it up again - I didn't want to visit them again, so I had to fix the Wheel Well myself!

I think that's it.

...oh no, I forgot......The first set of spark plugs failed on the complimentary track day at Castle Combe (<1500 Miles on the clock). So I had to drive a dealer car and limp home with a misfire!

YES, my Evo was a piece of S**T!

Ah, that's nothing Lee

I had 2 gearboxes(and of course clutches)!! + a rear diff, new brakes & a new ecu - all in 20k miles!! Mitsubishi warranty must have been broke by the time I sold that car??!!

Fast as fcuk - but totally unreliable.

Wierdly my 6 was fine :? I bought my 8 on the back of how good the 6 was. Now, however, after the pain of the 8 i'd never have another evo.

I'd have to say I quite like the new sti R205, but my best mate had a new shape sti hatch and it went terribly wrong right from the start. Plus my meg left it for dead round donnington.

Christ! You didn't have much luck with that one. The dealer sounds like a beauty too. Talking of the cutting out at speed, i remember driving a Discovery and the timing belt snapped whilst doing around 50-60mph - I think my life flashed before my eyes before i got it to stop in a hedge, so sympathy for that one.

You have an Impreza now? How has it been?

Yeah that 205 looks great compared to the hideous hatch, i'm not sure what they were thinking with that one, fab chassis though.

That's an unreal amount of warranty work on the Evo. I bet the engineers would have topped themselves if they knew about that, they don't handle failure very well do the Japs.
