Cheeky tw@t

TBH i'm kinda hoping its as unreliable as my R26 - 12k miles & 5 trackdays in 1 year and all it needed was 1 service, 2 front tyres and a set of front brake pads.

Compair that with the jap stuff ive owned and theyd have needed far more tlc and cost £££millions given the same treatment.

Indeed that is very good going. But you don't seem to factor in any "state of tune" related factor into your arguement. The Megane is tuned for nipping to the supermarket. Your 400 was tuned a little more?

Very nice, poesy !!

Just a question: Why the hardcore Megane ?

I'll clarify my question:
If I'd go for a fast hatchback instead of a scoob (or Evo), it would mainly be because they are more user-friendly. Which is why I am thinking in that direction as a car for my girlfriend (except thatt she doesn't like hatchbacks)
If I'd look for a hardcore car, I would think of an Impreza Spec C or an Evo RS since they aren't user friendly in the first place but are the ultimate beasts if you want one.

So why the hatchback and then 'hardcore' it ?

1) Time and time again, we don't all think like you. Weirdo.
2) She doesn't like hatchbacks - f*cking student with opinions... Is she gonna bleed you dry for the odd blowjob?
3) Talking of hardcore cars, how is the Merc?
4) So why not a "hardcore" hatch which isn't a beast?
5) Sorry, forgot to call you back the other night mate.

6) So you're not giving her what she wants? is this a first time?
7) if you are thinking about a fast hatchback have you considered a Saxo VTR? great value for money now
8) Why dont you take all the seats out the merc and lighten it, fit some small alloys and some really hard suspensiona and make it hardcore?

You didn't get my point.

1. I see going for a fast hatchback as a less hardcore option than going for scoob. Hence my question to Poesy why choosing a hatchback as hardcore car rather than eg a Spec C. Him choosing this model of Megane, I think, shows that he does like his meat raw.
2. What's wrong with liking cars with a normal boot?
3. Merc still fine. Did its workhorse thing perfectly in Wales last weekend and, just like your Range, allows me to have my weekend car raw.
4. Clarify your question: are you saying the Megane is hardcore hatch but not a beast (to which I disagree up to a certain extend) or that I should look at a hatch which is not hardcore for Mak (which is what i am considering)
5. No probs. I will be in the car tonight. Got a company event near Stoke tomorrow. Buzz me when free.

Stoke - don't forget to lock your doors.

What are your plans after Stoke?

Not responding to your post. I got bored reading it.

6) Dan, I keep telling you you do not need to do everything your wife asks. It is OK to travel, go for a beer, have a mistress, etc
7) Would like a car that is a) safe (ever seen a Saxo after a crash?) and b) I would enjoy taking out sometimes myself when I pop down to the supermarket.
8 ) I assume you went for Music and Art&Craft when doing your GCSE's and A-levels? Logic clearly not your strong point.
If I throw any seats out of anything and make it more hardcore, I'd do it to the Evo.
But then I would rather first start with an RS or a Spec C and get weight out.
The seats would stay in (junior enjoys his driving too much) and the suspension would be raised in order to work well with snowy conditions, not make it Essex-cruiser hard. It would be a car I'd use in Finland though. For UK it's a bit pointless.

My reasoning is the other way round swede - why bother with all the extra expense of buying and running a subaru/evo when around most of the tracks we go to the megane will be just as quick?

Spec Cs and RSs aint all that cop without mods - and we all know what I think of modifying; waste of time and money - my 400 used to just blitz them, I mean totally leave them for dead. I kinda feel like ive done the whole rice rocket thing now and it's time to move on.

I, like many, used to have jap-tinted glasses. But having been forced out of the 400, for financial reasons, you quickly realise that while subaru and mitsubishi are developing heavier and less powerful cars than before other manufacturers have upped their game and now offer the same, and sometimes more, performance.

Plus, and thses are personnal things; I like limited edition cars, hence why I have always rated the wr1 so high up my list, right now I can only afford to run 1 car and it has to fullfill a number of roles, and at trackdays I much prefer running a megane, in an evo or scoob, particularly a 400, you drive round feeling like you have a target on your back all day - not fun tbh.

Plus, and this is going to sound really sad I know, but I cant wait to own a car with a rollcage  and I'm hoping that in the long run (3 years perhaps) this may be my steppingstone to my dream car...we'll see!!

That makes very much sense.

The Evo and Scoob are indeed not there unless you modify them, the Megane does not need modification. You're spot on when saying you currently need to shed weight if getting a new Evo or Impreza to start with.

And a well driven Megane will on normal tarmac-ed roads indeed not be slower than a 4WD jap.

How do you think this will fare in residuals? I noticed that for a limited edition to be in demand later, it generally needs to be a limited edition of something that is already a cult car. The TMR, the FQ400, the WR1 and so still command high prices in second hand as they have a passionate fanbase. How does the Megane look for that ?

I plan to keep the megane for 3 years - and after that I expect it to be worth half of fcuk-all tbh

But if I enjoy the car then it'll have been 20k well spent in my eyes. Should be funny seeing if they'll take a megane in part-ex for a 911

Yeah... I'm also hoping to get a 911 since 4 years... and I'm not gonna get one for the next 2 years.
