Thanks to Matt for detailing the car on saturday to make it look its best for the 30-130 day at Marham.

The day went very well for me with a few niggles ironed out early on with the immensely knowledgeable Pat Herbourne helping to get the drive by wire system in the ecu working at it's best. This made a heck of a difference once sorted and after a few runs to check the car out on low boost, it was time for a splash of e85 and sort the map out for that before giving it hell.

First run on the e85 at low(er) boost gave me my best time of the day at 12.62 just as it started to rain.

The wind and rain were even bigger problems from then on but I was over the moon to come home as 3rd place Subaru :thumb: Thanks to all those that helped out on the day :)

Car felt great and nice to give it a good caning.

Paul from Zen had a couple of runs driving it too - which I think he enjoyed :thumb:

Shame I couldnt improve times in the afternoon but according to the datalogs from the Solaris it was spinning wheels in 2nd, 3rd and 4th so it was no surprise really.

Great day and one I would love to do again if it runs.

A couple of updates:

1. The car is now aircon-less :thumb:

Thanks to Julian for draining the gas out of the system and for assisting in the removal process but the various gubbins removed weigh quite a lot. plus the aircon rad blocked airflow to the rad so it should help cooling a little too.

2. The Horn now works

This has been bugging me since the car came back from Area 52 last year but basically everytime the horn was pressed it would blow a fuse and leave me without hazard lights or horn.

While the front of the car was dismantled i traced the wires from the horns and found the culprit. The wire for the right hand horn was trapped behind the mounting for the front mount so when that was installed, the horn was just earthing to the chassis and blowing the fuse.

Wiring un-trapped and new covering to stop the bare wire where it had worn through earthing again and routed through a grommet to the horn. I now have the traditional crappy horn that scoobies have :D

Would it be front entry manifold ?

Seeing as the air con is no more, I'd have thought a fairly easy mod now, just imagine the quicker spool up 8)

Well, it took me a while and again thanks to some guidance from Pat on the gear shift and gear cut strategies within Solaris... but I finally got it sorted.

Nice mound of wiring. All I had to do was cut the wire from the AC switch and feed in the wire from the clutch wire and solder them together. Firstly I got the wrong AC input so was put right on that. There are only 140 wires to choose from in my defense ;)

Image

Then to amend some of the inputs and settings within Solaris to make it work.

Image

1st->2nd gear shift worked a beaut as did 2nd->3rd and 3rd to 4th but 4th to 5th and 5th to 6th were throwing wobblies....

Some head-scratching and studying of logs (and more guidance) showed that it couldnt really decide what gear it was in when in 5th so I had to amend the driveRatios in the ecu to get it to figure it out perfectly.

End result ... job done - flat throttle shifting is working a treat :D

This means no spool up issues as it holds about 1.5 bar of boost between shifts :)

Well, I didnt like to say but you had the right idea of reducing spool up.... just this way was a shed load cheaper :)

Yes, Anti Lag, Launch Control and now flat throttle shifting with today's little modification so that I can change gear without lifting the throttle.

It is smoother onto and off power than with the MAF based ecu.
It is running more economically as it now has full closed loop fueling.
It has a switch that lets me switch between different fuel maps, boost levels, ALS and other gizmo without having to plug in the laptop.
It has built in knock control unlike a lot of other aftermarket ecus.

Driving wise, the wider track (4 inches front and rear) and the new rear wing make it feel very planted on the road. Hopefully this will translate on track.

Laymans terms - it should be quicker :)
