Having driven Heather's car around London I would avoid the Sports Premium suspension. Great for making progress where we live. Not so great for crap roads with loads of speed bumps. Having said that, the 10mm drop improves the presence of the car in my opinion.
Things to look out for:-
1) Some people go for the 18 inch "no cost option" wheels down grade???
2) RS4 seats replaces with S4 seats so they can have electric seats
3) RS4 steering wheel replaced with S4 wheel so you can control the stereo and a phone
Downside, it is a lovely RS4 wheel and you lose the sport button controlling the zorst valve and the tighening of the seat sides. However, the RS4 seats can be controlled manually.
I'm aware that all our requirements are different.... Just wanted you to be aware of the differences.
Here are my views...
* Don't buy an RS4 with 18-inch wheels......ever!
* Don't buy an RS4 without Sat-Nav.
* Don't buy an RS4 which is Painted Green or Yellow.
* Don't buy an RS4 with Nutmeg (Wood) Dash Inlays.
* The front centre arm rest (optional) can get in the way of the handbrake.
* Sports Suspension Plus is fabulous on smooth tarmac, but too hard and twitchy everywhere else.
* I actually prefer the electric Recaro Sports Seats; I found the Bucket Seats were too restrictive when reversing (I think it's 'cos I'm only 5'7''). The electric seats are also covered with better quality leather, but don't tighten in Sports Mode.
* The RS4 Sports Steering wheel looks and feels best; but if you do opt for the Multi-function derivative, the Sport button is relocated to the centre section of the dash (above the stereo).
I hope that helps!
Lee/Stu,
I'm looking at possibly changing the 1 for an RS in the new year. I've been looking on RS246.com to get a feel for any issues, or as you've nicely listed above, do's and don'ts when purchasing.
One thing is obvious from the amount of posts on the forum, is what seems like a serious issue with the DRC. I've read some seriously scary posts, like RS's that have had 11 replacement sets of shocks in just 12 months
And I thought that Subaru got it wrong with the shocks on the WR1, that is a whole different league
There are many examples of this on the RS site and it's not restricted to the older examples either, some have only covered a few thousand miles. At this stage Audi won't be providing a fix for a car that is now out of production. After the same issue occurred with the DRC on the old RS6, I am very surprised that Audi have got it so wrong again
Have either of you had any problems with the DRC on your RS's
This is seriously putting me off getting one, I am p$ssed off enough that the shocks have gone for a second time on my 1 after only 7K miles, replacing shocks once a month on what was a £55K car would be a joke quite honestly.
It looks like some are affected, and once the problem has occurred it can never be fixed. I notice a group have got together and written to Audi who have accepted the problem and extended their warranty to 5 years on the DRC alone, but still the car would spend more time in the dealers than on my drive.....I suppose an aftermarket setup could be fitted, but that would cost ££
Apologies for the long post........but my dream car bubble has popped
