Whitby Run Pics - Ford Haters Look Away

Postby Megaman » Mon Jun 16, 2008 11:42 am

Here are some pics from yesterdays trip to Whitby - some video clips waiting to be uploaded. There were around 39 Focus ST's... Three convoys met at Eden camp and then cruised to Whitby and then finally Scarborough. Good weather and good day out although I was happy this morning to get back into my scoob. Id forgotten how bad front wheel drive cars are with too much power going through them in lower gears . I also remap'd the car with my GGR ST300+ Dreamscience map (324bhp/500NM) as the missus normally runs an economy map to get to and from work that cuts power back to 305bhp/405NM - far more economical on the old fuel...

OMG... What boring pictures. Mega, don't take this the wrong way. We love pictures on this forum and your contribution is second to none both with pictures and topic chat.

I can't believe how unimpressive and bland a group of enthusiasts cars look? The tango one parked down the hillside even looks bored and lacking drama.

Do you remember Fraggle Rock and Uncle Travelling Matt? Could you go and explore a Skoda RS meet next time and see if we can discover more passion?

I loved Fraggle Rock.

Ahh, memories.

No pleasing some folk who incidentally keep asking for more pics of the fords! :). Im sure the focus owners without a scoob would think the same way about a line of subarus parked up in a row. Would you like more action shots next time? ;)

WR1 Bro wrote:The tango one parked down the hillside even looks bored and lacking drama.

Well nice of you to ask but yes the driver and passenger were okay after the accident. The range rover took out another two cars in the process apparently, the head on collision victim requiring the medevac. Suprised that your calling pics of an accident boring and lacking and arent gutted for the poor guy who's just bent his pride n joy... (besides theres a helicopter in the road, thats just plain cool!)

So your not impressed that ive managed to show you all sorts of different colours all with different styling kits on them? tshh some people... :)

If you guys dont want pics of the focus gathering then thats fine, I just thought you'd like to see the sort of turn out we normally get. I wont bother posting any more focus meet related pics if ya find them boring... i was hoping for some more comments even if it be taking the micky rather than saying theyre boring!!... ive also got driving vids of the convoy too but its more of the same...

anyway - on another note, ive almost finished plans for the two dales run for you lot... if you are still interested??

It does have some more members turning up than a WR1oc meeting though...

Hope the guys in the accident came off well. Did the range Rover driver get caught ?

Dutch saying: "Zij die zich schuldig voelen nemen de opmerking voor zich"

(freely translated: "Those who feel guilty they take the remark as aimed at them".)

PS: Nothing personal Bro, I just am very pissed off with the way events are being committed to and when I see that we then make such denigrating comments on a club where people actually DO come together, I got a feel we'd better first look at ourselves.
In the end, whether they drive something that is less focussed than a WR1 is not the question. This could be a meeting of Skoda Favorit drivers, if it were me. As long as they are true car enthusiasts who actually have a drive to invest in their club I rate them higher than some people who only have an enthusiast's car because they got money, but actually can't be bothered and will be off to the next gig once they're bored of this one...

People have tried to get meeets events, take spa for instance the best F1 track in the world and only 4 people on here interested, the other 2 are my brother and a mate.

Trouble is if it's not on your doorstep people can't be bothered, unlike me who has probably travelled more miles to meets than anyone on here ... although sweede may have done more

don't find the focus pictures boring and i will take the p1ss ....but tbh I could go to the local ford garage and see the same amount on there forecourt

To be fair, the focus ST isnt exactly limited edition so your never going to get a huge turn out for local style events on a limited production car like the WR1... once a year events however would get a good turn out if planned and organised well.. i.e. a wr1oc stand at an event.

As a comparison ford have Ford Fair (august 2nd i think this year) which all the ford clubs made a pact to be involved in. We all turn up get grouped together in clubs and get to know each other. You dont have to get your car gleaming for the stand although each club local area dish out prizes for various things like best looking car etc. Also a chance to give it a blast on the track too for £25 or so instead of silly £150-£200 trackday prices is nice...

I was hoping the elvington scooby day out would be similar to ford fair but i found it very disorganised. I asked the guy at the gate if there was a WR1OC stand or group of cars I could park up with but was told there was just 1 car park where everyone was being herded into. If we would have had a stand i know i would have met at least three members ive not already met if not more.

Yes the guy in the accident was fine, just shaken up. The range rover was driven by a polish woman believe it or not who had just got fed up of being behind a slow moving coach. She pulled out to overtake on a crossroads, causing chaos behind her then carried on head on towards the focus member who took evasive action and dived to the side of the road and slowly rolled into the ditch. Luckily he wasnt hit but a few cars behind him a family car on a day out got hit more or less head on and they were all taken away with various injuries. touch wood no fatalaties from it al but we all felt really sorry for him as he had been posting on the forums before the event about getting various mods to the car and a trip to a detailer...

Good post Swede, I must admit I quized about meets when i first joined the wr1oc and was told to make my own up which is what i was trying to do. :)

I know I dont mind driving some distance for a meet on the basis its not happening too frequently due to fuel and costs etc... I turned up at the Daventry meet with my wife in a separate car thus i got double the bill :? but it was worth it to meet new faces and to have a nice meal. 8)

My plan for a meet is as follows:
Have an evening wr1oc meal on sat night next to a cheap hotel where everyone can kip over that isnt local. Then on sunday do a structured drive where by every car will be given a navigation manual that ive nearly finished. This will involve driving from A to B then stopping for a break. The driving will show some of the nice scenery around here with stopping points being at places of interest. One of the stops will be for lunch and the whole day if it runs on time should end at just before 3pm giving people chance to head home. The idea of a navigation manual for the route will make it fun and is a reason to bring a friend/spouse along to keep them involved. As well as this drivers shouldnt feel the need to drive like an idiot if they are at the back of the convoy as they all have the directions and can arrive in their own time.

After I was asked to design my own meet I have been out several times to create an accurate navigation book as I thought this would be something different and fun to do. I should have the full meet details completed shortly but would need to know when you guys as a community are free.

Finally yes if ive spent several tanks of fuel and a lot of time devloping a meet I too, as you said before, would be cheesed off if no one turned up.. ;)

You wont see any styled ST's on dealer forecourts very often, nor will you see heavily modified ones producing up to 360BHP through the front two wheels....
:?: i wonder if there is a reason for that

I know what your saying martin, but the amount of trackdays I can do here in the uk for the cost of a spa trip makes it a no-brainer for me tbh. Its cost rather than being bothered that swings it for me fella. Were's the nearest uk track to you. Im sure fraz and I could meet you there. We need to sort our next date soon.

I like the STs in white, very 8)

The ST WINS number plate is however very :gay:
