Cool !

But what is the waitlist ?

I have been playing with the idea of ordering one for delivery next summer, but I heard the waitlist is like 2 years or so :(

My uncle had one on order, cancelled it because once you've added the toys you get with a 911 you end up spneding 90K.

Real nice Car, but it's not a 911...

I have been looking at a 911 4S with some basic equipment and you're also straight away looking at 76-78K.
The Audi is indeed still a bit more expensive, but in this pricerange, you want to buy what you like and not dibble over a few thousand pounds.

It's not like you're doubting over an 80K Audi or a 160K 'rrari.

While you're in this kind of prices and cars, you could actually even look at a few alternatives still such as a recent Gallardo, Continental GT or Astom Martin V8 or DB9.

I love the Porsche for its way of driving. But I remember the Audi engine being 8) out of the RS4 and I just love the looks of the R8.

I can vouch for the sweet V8 as being lovely. My only degative would be that the exhaust needs to let out more of the tune!!

R8 - there is a chance that it will hold its price better than a 911?

I agree with you in full.

And since the R8 has a more open exhaust, I assume it must let the thing sing its tune in full.

As for the depreciation, I am afraid the R8 will be, just like all the other 'contenders' again a victim of "must have" in the beginning and hence premium prices and then it will be surpassed by the next new cool thing. Usually happens with fast Audis :(

Do you think the 911 depreciates a lot? I find it holds its value very well.

I think the RS6 falls quickest of all the RS's. RS4 for a nice example of the old shape is still silly money for a 5/6 year old example.

I know a car isn't an investment other than being an investment in fun.

Just like Kylie does for me, Mabel ticks all the right boxes for Heather. I can't see her rushing to sell it for a long time so I doubt the depreciation will ever worry her. I think she has already had £60k's worth of fun just blatting to and from work!

I agree with you that car's aren't an investment.

Although depreciation can play a role in the way that I personally think I can afford a 911 since the low depreciation makes it still 'affordable' whereas I cannot afford a similarly priced new Merc S-class.
I.e. I wouldn't buy a 911 because of it being an 'investment'. i just like the car a lot first and low depreciation makes it affordable.

The RS6 of all RS's was in my opinion the most 'boy racer' one that very quickly got molested by the Essex autobahn crew. Probably why it depreciates faster.

Looking forward to have a go in your two 'new' cars when I'm over, mate ;)

waitlist? Who cares? It's hardly likely i'm going to give them 94k for the one i'm driving after the test drive!

actually if I was going to spend that much although i love the look of the r8 after driving the 911/997 turbo for that sort of money it's got it's work cut out..

Not long. that would then make the R8 a serious consideration, perhaps.

It was the second cheapest 911 you can buy though. Next to a GT3 the results would have been a bit different i'd say. Plus it lost the dragg race

Sure the R8 is a lovely car, but a 911, nah I dont think so!!

True It did lose the drag race  plus it is the near bottom entry vdubwer, still more bucks than the R8 though. In real life though, tell me when this is going to take place, but put A an B on a drivers road R8 is far better option and probably better for your back

Left me like i was stood still.
But was i bothered NO my jaw was still on the floor as it disappeared, it looked simple awsome
The WR1oc still rocks...

Thing is Unc basically said "ill not pay the high side of 90K for an Audi sports car with all the toys I want!"
(He currently has an S8 and has had a couple before).

I've not done the numebrs as currently the R8 is not on my radar, but how much 911 can ou get once you add all the toys the R8 is missing ?

I would have an R8 over the porker everytime, engine is in the wrong place in the porker and there are far too many models that look predominantly the same with a naming convention that is impossible to follow.

R8 is distinctive, has the RS4 V8 8) and looks 8) 8) 8)

I assume the porker on TG was rear wheel drive against the R8 with 4-wheel drive that is notoriously more difficult to get off the line, it was catching it all the way to the finish, would have had it eventually.

How porsche have got away with facelifts of the same styling for all these years I will never know, I suppose if it aint broke don't fix it, but it doesn't do it for me.

Having said all that never driven either so can't really comment, will be interesting to see how you get on Dan, you must have driven more porkers than poosters had pasties in the past year.

At last someone else who see's vdubwer's for what they are :woohoo: overrated stretch beetles, which give you backache

As for Pooster eating pasties, if Dan has driven 1 vw, it's 1 more than 0 pasties

Correct, look for an R8 and none are anywhere near 70k, closer to 95 with a decent spec. You can get a 997 Turbo for that - no brainer!!

Can I come ? :)

You going to Porsche in Reading or Swindon ?

I think R8 over 911 or not comes down to what you want and taste. Once you shop in this category, you know it's not your last sportscar and probably not the first one you have.

I expect quite a few 911 drivers might want to get an R8 for a change and will swap back to a newer 911 afterwards.

For looks, I personally cannot flaw the R8. It looks brilliant.

For driving, I can't say. I'd have to try.

As for the 911, presa, you should go and ask for a good drive in one.

I personally still prefer the atmospheric engines in them as they feel much more original than the turbo.
The 911 S drives brilliantly. It doesn't stand out because of brutal power or sheer speed, but it is an incredibly satisfying car to drive.
