Your report was great Dan. I read it all and enjoyed reading.

Interesting write up. I've only ever driven a Boxster which i had for the weekend a few years ago now. The interia, whilst being well screwed together was incredibly basic which at the time was something of a disappointment as i was expecting something of a higher quality finish.

So what's next on the list?

i drove an early boxster a long time ago, it's hard to believe these cars are manufactured by the same people. IMO the 997 has come a long way since the 996 carrera aswell

Wonderful wr1te-up, Dan, and very eloquent too! That really gives a good idea what it's like to have, and there's no substitute for this kind of feedback. I can't wait for your next pics :D

So you considering buying a Porker, Dan ?

Xmas ? ... :suss: Lambo ?

Drop the Aston. Waste of time, at least the ones with the autobox. DB9 is also too heavy, I found. Would like to try the V8 Vantage to see if it's any more nimble.

The db9 is a wonderful car. Exquisit in every detail - and the wailing noise that engine makes has to be eperienced to be believed.

My brother owned one last year, a cabrio, for 4 - 5 months and sold it for 4k more than he bought it for

Having said that, still prefer a 997. The one we had, had the 381bhp upgrade pack on it and with all that power going to just the rear wheels I'd say it would be a match for any evo under acceleration and top end - well it can do 190mph, an evo cant. Plus, and its a BIG plus, you drive a 997 whereas a modernday evo drives for you

The looks of the 911 are now good again and I also got loads of positive comments, people wanting their photo taken in the car that sort of thing. Think its because the rice rockets are now associated with over-egoed twats, ferraris are associated with attention seekers etc, etc. Wheras the 911 is, always has been and always will be a classy piece of kit which fits in everywhere whether its a schoolkids wall, a track day thrash or a nice country retreat.

will be interested to how the DB9 compares. after all they're not a mile apart in terms of cost and are aimed at competing with each other.
i'd like to try the 911 with the power upgrade, just seems like a very expensive upgrade to put you firmly in GT3 territory on price...
luckily, it wont be a decision i'll nead to make as I've just had the finance figures through and they're nowhere near affordable

p.s totally agree with your comment on the 911 though, it's usefull for EVERY occasion, which is very rare 8) 8)

it doesnt say, all it says on the quote is "notional charges 15k" which is the interest, in fact, this is 15k of interest on 50k over 4 years, as this was based on a 20k deposit. (not that i've got anywhere near that to put down )

I would find it hard to pay that much interest on a item that depreciates so much.

I'd prefer to start an high risk ISA and save for a few years and buy the next new Porsche out right.
