Porsche offered me a 24hr test drive of a carrera 4s yesterday. One of the benefits of being over 30 I guess

No way I was leaving my evo with them though :nono: no chance.

Was that a condition for getting the 4S ? Or could you just leave them with the MR75 ?

Call them and ask them for one.

Tell 'em you're really interested in a 911 !

I always love these salesmen. The think they sell whatever prestige sh1te and you're too young or whatever to get a drive. A year later you turn up in one of their cars or a competitor's one (that is also more expensive than what you investigated for in the first place) and you give 'em a :2:

Except Audi that is of course where even when you actually place an order for a 57K RS4, they "prioritise important customers"...

Well, finally drove a 997 on saturday and it was just fantastic. Yes the 996 is good, no doubt, but what a leap forward the new model is.

Now then,

Dear Santa ...

I would be very interested to hear your specific "compare and contrast" comments on the 996 and 997.

Only driven 2 996s. My dads old C4S, twice I think, and a 20 minute test drive in a GT3. Both good, but neither memorable.

However, on saturday got to drive 4 different 997s; C4S, GT3, Turbo and the C2S. And my favourite by a mile was the C2S. The Turbo is boring, the C4S and the GT3 have too much grip. The C2S has just the right level of power to grip ratio to let you have a bit of fun, without risking a very expensive car. It felt so alive, communicative and fresh. Something I havent felt in a car for a long time. Since my Renault GTA really. The interior finish is anther level, even compaired to the 996, and with those ceramic brakes  The steering too is much sharper and the throttle response, well I think youd only have to blow in the direction of the accelerator to be off.

This car has really got me thinking now tbh. No, its not a cheap car, circa

I think in your privileged situation then I can see why the C2S is of interest. If you were living with the car daily, do you think you would be more inclined to take the C4S?

Dont know if i'm particularly privileged - more lusting at the moment tbh. But then ive been doing that since I saw my first 911, aged about 10 I think.

If the bank manager comes on-side then i'd love to replace the evo with a C2S. So therefore it'd be a second car for me. As a day to day runner then the C4S makes much more sense yes, fair bit more

The GT3 is just too clinical dan. Amazing levels of grip, turn in, corner speed, acceleration out the corner, etc. Although i'd have to say it didnt seems that much faster in a straight line :? The Turbo is ballistic, but the other 3 were much of a muchness tbh.

Basically the GT3 felt like a car way beyond my driving skills which I could get horribly wrong and do a lot of damage to, and ive already got a car like that and thats something I just dont like.

The 2 best cars ive ever driven, for me personnally, were my Renault GTA and my brothers Elise MK2. Neither brakeneck fast in a straight line, but quick enough to keep you ahead of the pack. But both such a rewarding driving experience - thats what I want out of my next car. And thats what a C2S offers. Just hope the bank manager agrees

Like your thinking.

Turbo indeed a bit ott. And GT3 probably too efficient to still use on public road.

I also found the 997 a big step forward. Mainly build quality and space (couldn't sit upright in the 996).

Loved most the normal 3.6 in fact. I didn't feel a great difference in performance with the S but liked most the deep sound of the 3.6 at low revs than the metallic sound of the 3.8.
Didn't like the normal suspension though as it lost the plot where the PASM suspension of the 911 S kept it together. And once you specify that option on a normal Carrera, the difference becomes too small not to go for an S.

As for 4WD, I found the system useless. When the rear wheels lost grip, the electronic stability control always reacted faster than the 4WD (which normally sends most power to the rear).

Remarkable still: the 911 was by far not the fastest car I testdrove when getting the Evo (that includes the Evo, the Spec C, the RS4, etc) but it still stands out as one of the nicest cars I drove back then.

Thoughts ?

Swede, I think i'm over that "how fast is your car" phase of my life now dude and am back to looking for an enjoyable car again.

I had my Renault 6 and a half years and truely wish i'd kept it.

Had my scoob 12 months, my evo6 18 and now the evo8 20 and i'm looking to change already. To me there seems to be a message there !!! Great cars, dont get me wrong. Perhaps, just not for me thats all.

What don't you enjoy about the Evo Poesy? I am puzzled? Could understand it as a daily car but as a 'toy' i cant think of a lot else i would rather have.
