Asked for a drive in the RS4 yesterday. Not available til March

What a test drive's not available or the car itself ?

The car AND the testdrive.

Don't care about the car, I got some time. But there is NO WAY I am willing to order a car that I have not driven.

Salesman said the first deliveries were planned for October but he had to tell customers it will only be March. P*** poor supply chain management I call that.

Not sure. I drove the STi and could have driven a PPP. The WR1 would only have been better.

As for the Audi, the S4 didn't impress me. So how do I know the RS4 will not just be another heap of German metal that goes fast ?

Best just buy a Japanesee heap of plastic that just goes fast - I did, and without a test drive

Serious, Poesy. Reason why I say so. Driven many fast Beemer, Merc or Audi. All of them are fast, but at the same time, they try to offer limo comfort.
The result is that you need to go way beyond where you'll lose your licence before you start to feel you are driving something special.

The STi or the Evo don't need to be driven fast to be fun/special to drive.

As I told the Audi chap yesterday, I don't give a sh!t if the car has lots of comfy's. If I want a car with lots of toys to drive a long distance, I'll take mine anyway.

Anyone driven it yet ?

Nah, not really my cup of tea fella - be interested in what you think of it though. Appears to be a good car by all accounts.

Would wait till its about 12 months old though - fast Audis seem to depreciate like mad.

You surprise me with that statement as I think they hold their price TOO well.

:?

Don't really care about depreciation. The car will be on contract hire anyway.

For the Merc, I had no issue buying it outright. Low risk car (not particularly exotic model) and Merc' residuals seemed to have behaved the same for the last 3 centuries.

For the second car, I want something fun without:
1. sinking more cash up front into cars
2. taking risks with uncertain residuals

Contract Hire hence a good option and the prices on the RS4 seem really good at the moment.

Plus, nothing wrong with trying something a nice car. I'm a bit afraid the RS4 will not provide the same thrills as a scoob or an Evo 9, but it seems an interesting car and it can be spec'ed really well.

Note: When I got the STi, these cars were fairly 'exclusive' and residuals were estimated pretty high by the finance firms. Got an excellent deal hence. The value has dropped seriously since due to high supply and new models and Subaru Finance won't have made a lot of money on this one by the end of contract :2: (which is good as they have treated us like a big bunch of :wank:'s for the last 2 years).
So contract hire saved me from having a financial hangover after this car and being put off of investing again in an exotic toy.

Dont get me wrong, leasing/contract hire is also a good idea in my book. I lease my clio and will always lease my second car - easiest option for me both financially and for piece of mind. My main car I prefer to buy outright. Dont ask me why, just always have and probably always will.

Not getting you wrong at all. I think we're on the same wavelength, except that I chose a slightly "safer" option for my main car than an FQ400.
Not only for financial reasons, but also as I tend use the car for (very) long journeys, towing, etc.

The issue with exotic cars (bar those who keep their value due to badge desirability such as Astons, Porsches,...) is that they tend to only keep their value as long as nothing better has come along. But once the new model is out, they often depreciate even faster than the mainstream models.

Yeah, I wouldnt have an FQ400 as my main car either (3.7mpg  for a start) - the scoob STi I think is a much better day to day car than an evo, except perhaps the new IX FQ300.

So what do you use as your main car then ? :?

Why the 300 ? Heard the 320 has all the goodies of the 340 without being so hard edged. Have you tried the 300 and been able to compare with the 320 or 340 ?

I use the tube as my main car  the evo is purely a toy which tends to only get used in good weather. Sad I know, but true i'm afraid.

A friend of mine has a 300 now - feels no slower than a 320 to me - comes on boost nice and early so easy to drive and very responsive and is great in and around traffic (clutch is a doddle), has nice leather seats, xenons and sat-nav plus he recons he's getting 300 miles to a tank. Picked it up for

Sorry, you probably saw that one coming.

Some people just seem to miss what exactly the most fun bit is of this type of cars.

I'm already looking forward to our weekend trip to my in-law's island. 2 miles out...
