Seen a Audi A4 2.5tdi convertable in almost ice blue :wow:
Helen loved it, so maybe her new car in the near future
plus it was a diesel

As posted somewhere else on this site earlier, the 2.5TDI from VAG has a VERY poor record for reliability. Should read some of the horrorstories that have been published in Germany and Belgium. Plus, when it goes wrong, it's never a small repair...

It's a nice drive (although the weight of the cabrio takes the edge off it), but I'd still stay away from it if it were my money.

Steady now, i'm only here to help - saving you from years of continual embarrassement; could you not afford a proper convertible, petrol engine, etc....

For me its already way too late

To your points, I'd say

- it's unfair saying it's not a proper convertible. I can confirm this one doesn't shake like a leaf like quite a few convertibles do.
- The engine noise of the V6 is in fact quite nice. Doesn't sound like a diesel. More a heavy, metallic V6 sound.
- Fumes ? Ever heard of cat's and Euro IV compliance ?

Main drawbacks would be the image (you sure look like a gay dentist in an Audi Convertible) and the reliability long term of the engine (combined with astronomical costs of repairs).

If she likes the car, why not take a 1.8T or a 2.4 V6 petrol ?

I'd definitely do the numbers once and compare how long you need to drive the diesel before you get the premium you paid back.

What's your annual mileage ?

No, it sounds like a diesel, err because it is a diesel

But hay what would I know - by a proper convertible I mean something like an MR2/MX5/Honda S2000, and the're hairdresser central, but I love em all - soo much fun/character.

Yep, you only challenge the decisions that are really important!
