Postby stanley » Mon Oct 12, 2009 5:02 pm

As you all know my 1 is for sale..my friend who i have not seen for a while, came on a sabaru meet with me yesterday..he has a 2001 rs4 avant 77k silver sat nav etc, he did not know that i was selling my 1.
He asked me if i would swap my 1 plus he would give me 5k.
What do you lot think..as in two minds whether to sell my 1 or not now..as really love car but just dont use it.

What are you hoping to achieve? Why get rid of a high performance car for another slightly slower and older one? Just keep the 1 and drive it....?

give your car a good clean and polish ,stand back ,admire it,then imagine life without it  and then go for a drive in it :D :D :D
it is better to have had a wr1 and lost it than never to have one at all.

What nick is the RS4 in?
I test drove a few before I got my WR1 and found the 2.7Bi Turbos at around 80-90,000 miles on the clock sounded very ropey. One I drove locally sounded like the turbos were about ready to give up the ghost so best check the car over if you are considering this seriously.

Geez it is spotless all the time.. :? i know i am going to miss it big time.. on the way to surreyscoobies meet in cobham at a roundabout a new m3 gave me a look  .. fooking.. bmw drivers  ..well that was it straight up behind him on bendy dual carriage way hassling him then he put his foot down he was giving it everything but all he could see was me in his rear view mirror he would not move over and we was going to quick to pass him on the inside, was impresed how the m3 took the corners though as its rear wheel drive..bet he was pissed though as he probaly thinks his car is the nuts lol
Theres not many standard low mileage 1`s left like mine.
If i was looking to buy one it would be mine or my friends who also has a 1 with same miles and he lives 2 min down the road..!
Or the one for sale with 565 miles on the clock..
But something has to give..thats why my car is for sale

If its in decent nick, its worth 15k all day long so unless you value your car at over 20k, i would be literally ripping his arm off

Exactly the same thoughts I had. Will always hold its value better than a WR1. Nice knowing you Stanley

When we went out on the Dales run with 30+ Focus's and 3 WR1s  , I was inbetween a 280bhp megane and behind me was an '07 RS4. The RS4 only ever caught me up when I slowed at the end of a long straight. I pulled away everytime, and kept pulling away. Granted, mostly on twisty stuff and it is a heavy car so didn't really stand a chance but on the straights I thought it would have me.

That was a newer model RS4 with the V8 engine and more power not the 2.7 Bi Turbo. Ive spoken to the owner of that RS4 a few times and he said that the problem with it is that the power range is quite high up so by the time his power kicks in, the other cars like the focus st with a small turbo and the wr1 have already shot off to the next corner. On a straight road the new RS4 would probably put a wr1 to shame but on the twisties the wr1 seems to be the best setup car ive driven on them so far... :)

Not sure about that Mega. I've driven the RS4 V8 and it is such easy car to drive fast I would not want to take it on with a standard WR1. There is 110 bhp difference and the brakes of the Audi don't give up after 7 miles.

Also, what's the problem with power high up? That's only a problem for the first 50 meters and once you're rolling, just keep it in revs. That's why you got a bloody gearbox !!

Well im sure driver ability plays a big part in it all. All three runs ive been on with this guy he has always gone like the clappers on the straights but fallen back on the twisty b-roads. So can only go by our experiences on the road with the RS4. Ive driven the 2.7 bi turbo but not the 4.2L V8. I really like the RS4 so im not going to slate it, just saying it how it is on the runs weve done.

With regards to brakes i cant really compare to a standard wr1 as i have AP brakes fitted now which ive had on every run ive been out with him on so have always had keen brakes.

I had a play with a new M3 on a whitby run last year which i think is roughly the same power as the RS4 and it was all over me on A roads and at the nearest straight it flew past me whilst i was foot to the floor so the power makes quite a big difference as it didnt exactly creep past. Didnt have a play with it on the tight and twisty B roads though.
