It didnt feel as fast as the WR1, it was noisy not a nice noisy but a tiny screeming noisy. the overall build wasnt overly impresive, you couldnt even raise the seat.
The worst thing was i had an STI behind me, it became a Japanees battle on the road. I left him on the straight but after looking at the sales man  :? i though i had better be a bit sensible on the roundabout. once he passed me i could not catch him
It felt good but i wouldnt change.
I would like to test the 340. :?
Its the Scoob for me any day of the week.

The lack of a seat height adjustment was one of the (many) things that put me off the FQ330 i tested a couple of years ago.

Also tried the FQ320 when I got our scoob. I quite liked it because of the electronic diffs and yaw control which would have made it a more fun car for handling on the ice and snow in Finland.

Issues:
1. Indeed only screamy engine. No character like the flat four.
2. Handful to drive in heavy traffic (the salesman told me to always get the car out of gear at traffic lights to avoid ruining the clutch, keep the foot off the brakes at standstill because of overheating etcetc). No way I would have been able to explain to my wife this was now her new day-to-day transport
3. Maintenance intervals are just a pain. With 4500 miles in between two services to be carried out by a Ralliart dealer only, I wouldn't even manage a return trip UK-Finland !

drove an MR340 and although impressive I would use one word to sum it up ... boring! Scoob is a much better car, and although in standard form the WR1 loses power to the MR340 it has more character and is more fun to drive. The adjustable diff is a lot better than the modes in the EVO.

The MR400 on the other hand ... wow!! A good friend of mine has one of these and brought it to the most recent poser's cruise. That thing destroys all. So so so worth the 47k price tag. Alcon 6 pot brakes, twin plate clutch, hks engine parts, Motec ecu with anti-lag!!

My friend was in the process of buying a WR1 when Mitsi brought this out. His one is white with black wheels and carbon fibre. People who can't afford the MR400 say that the 340 is a better car - b0llocks to them! The MR400 drives so much differently and is awesome over it in every department.

Very interesting remark. The only big problem I have with the STi, is understeer when it's winter here. The thing just does not want to be pushed hard into a corner.
And turning the power to the back, might work well on tarmac, but on ice and snow, it's only gonna make the back swing out even more when you accelerate out. I think it's mainly the reaction time to lock the diffs that catches the STi out and where the Evo should do much better with it's electronic diffs and Yaw Control.

Did you ever try the scoob on slippery roads with DCCD vs normal passive STi diffs ?

yes but I live in a country where it's not dark for half the year! My sister lives in Sweden and Scoobs, Evos and the like are not good cars to drive out there.

I'm referring to the 'normal' road conditions that I encounter every day ... and for those the MR340 is a boring car to drive. I feel that I have much more control over what is happening in the scoob - which is why I think it's more exciting to drive. You can feel the EVO correcting you. As I said though I would have an MR FQ400 anyday if I wasn't so very much in love with the Noble M12!

You are trying to compare the road conditions in sweden with the road conditions in the UK - and they are like chalk and cheese. We don't have to worry about sheet ice and putting on snow chains and winter tyres over here!

If you know Sweden... make it 10 times worse and you got Finland. At least the Swedes get their main roads gritted.

I wouldn't say the scoobs are bad cars here at all. The main issue is power. If you think you'll be driving around like Gronholm on the stages of the Rally of Sweden, you got it wrong. 1. we ain't Gronholm; 2. power delivery on a roadgoing turbo car like the STi is much more brutal and there are no smart diffs.

I found that with the adapted driving style, nothing on the roads comes anywhere close to the STi here in winter. But you can't chuck the car around as you would with an old Quattro.
The issue especially being that the passive diffs lock a tad too late (i.e. when you're already sideways) which generally accentuates the oversteer rather than help you getting out of the situation easier.

FANTASTIC VIDEO !

Thanks, Brian.

Wish I could come once to one of the events.

Done the donut-ing bit a few times (Half the year, I got a VERY big practicing area called the Gulf of Botnia ;) ), but I'd love a pro to show me how to do a 4-wheel drift with a classic STi on very slippery roads (without taking the risk of hitting other road users).

Maybe we should organise an event here once in winter ! 8) For 20 quid, you can hire a forest of 10 square miles for a day and set out your own rally stage ! :woohoo:

when you click on it does it download and then do nothing? I get that from my work internet connection but not from home. I think it's something to do with the file type. Have you tried saving to your hard disc and then running it from there?

When requested it to do so... don't worry about entering your bank account details. It is there for your own security!!
