Weighbridge meet with the MLR !

Postby bbigman2000 » Sun May 24, 2009 5:00 pm

Yes thats right gent's, I went along with some associates from the Lancer Register, and we all had our car's weighed and power to weight ratio's calculated.

Image

The M5 was of course the heaviest car there at 1880kg with the closest Evo being about 1480kg, my power to weight ratio calculated at about 269.9 bhp per ton or there abouts.

The most powerful evo there some 600 odd bhp had a power to weight of 370bhp per ton.

Interesting or maybe not LOL

The yellow FQ360 was actually my favorite.

Being colourblind, I like colours that are obvious. Might not go for a yellow car though

PS: contrary to many Evo owner, I am not at all a fan of lots of bhp. What I do really appreciate is people who can turn the car into a very agile and surefooted rallycar you can blast down bad back roads or gravel roads with.
I'm generally told I am mad when I say I hence would like to raise the car and have a suspension with more travel, get 16" wheels and smaller brakes (so I can fit the very aggressive studded tyres) and then shed some weight... Car also needs a good lightpod.

I'm with you there swede, hence the 360 with the remap and AP brakes was rather nice, making 400bhp, a nice back road package, the 600bhp evo 8 was a lumpy, horrible thing, sounded terrible, and frankly the performance does not equate to faster driving on the road!

Next up on the MLR events calander is a new road safety campaign in conjunction with Kwik-Fit called the "Tyre Integrity Testing Scheme" or a TITS day out for short :D

Batteries ran out on my crystal ball... I think it was the long straights that did it although there was one bend which 10 different coloured Evo's had swept around whilst a dark coloured barge type thing had rolled into a field...

pmsl, I can tell you gent's for free, the M5 stuck to and out performed 400bhp well tuned Evo;s on those twisties the lot and that was 3 up whilst no evo had any passengers.

I didnt get chance to put it against the 600bhp car but certainly against the 400/450bhp evo's the M5 was right up there, and I dont think any of them would deny the M5 is gone on any decent straight, brilliant

PS: I do agree with you on RR's. They're super boring.

Which doesn't detract from the fact that we haven't seen the chief amateur ever at an event so far.

OMG, what planet are you on?

I've organised two WR1oc RR days along with socials afterwards. I've also attended two other WR1oc rolling roads. So your point is Mr Swede?

I actually really enjoy RR as there is ALWAYS some beer afterwards...

Granted the last RR didn't get off the ground.

I don't actually mind RR days, however I've always found the MLR guys a very mixed bunch, you seem to have a selection of skinny ginger blokes with no freinds, a few very fat blokes, then oddly a selection of perfectly normal blokes who are excellent banter.

I could actually eat cheese burgers all day and stand there hoping somones car will melt on the rollers.

Question: Why pay for a rolling road and get bored stiff for 6 hours if you can just organise a nice get together with a BBQ straight away and have plenty of beers? :?

The only disadvantage I can see Swede is not being able to test cars..

Easy, they love to hear there car's getting revved up, roars of banter go round when a flame pops out the exhaust pipe and if they have to sit in the boot to hold it on the rollers they are delighted such is the immense power of there weapon

They can then argue with the rolling road owner for days about how it is not an accurate reading and there car wasnt really detting it was a fault with the knock sensor.

If you go straight to the beer and bbq your missing the car element, a lot of these guys love to remove bits of tar and discuss new boost gauges with other like minded folk, I dont mind a bit of that myself at times, but have to say it's wearing thin these days, since I moved away from modded motors, old age I believe.

 I love your description of the RR.

I agree that it can add some element of fun to a get-together. The thing is that they are always way too long

And obviously, there is always something wrong with the RR !

Each to their own at the end of the day.

I like the banter and social of a RR.

Swede likes being stuck in a caravan.

Yup, we rented a house with sufficient parking space so we could park the caravan outside and live in there. Still  expensive in council tax, but cheap on electricity and gas :D

And anyway, unlike Bro I don't need a big mansion to fit my ego.
