Porsche 997 C4S PDK

Postby danr55 » Mon Feb 23, 2009 4:24 pm

Had this at the weekend, what a car.

Every time Porsche bring out a newer model, they do seem to improve, I wasnt really looking forward to the PDK as I'm not a great fan of autos and paddles, but was pleasantly suprised. These now have 385 BHP, and as a 4 wheel drive only put power through the front when needed. This also had the sports chrono pack, so had 3 modes, normal, sport, and sport plus. Every mode is auto until you change gear, which then flicks it into manual until you havent changed gear for a while and it automatically goes back (sounds annoying - but isn't)
Normal mode is crazy it makes the car drivable around town and will have you in 6th gear (out of a possible 7) at 35 mph! sports mode opens the exhaust valves, quickens the throttle response, and gear change, and sports plus even more so. sports mode seems a bit pointless so I only used normal (for about 20miles) and spent the rest of the weekend in sport plus mode. the gear change is insanely rapid, I mean really really rapid changing up or down (changing down sounds awesome!) It puts the C2S and C4S on a par with GT3 in terms of acceleration, and it feels it too. Also has launch control

really didnt want to give it back this morning!!

PMSL... are you from Yorkshire??

On everyday roads, would it be as quick as a WR1?

what do you class as an everyday road? :?

with launch control and that PDK set to sports plus I found myself wondering if it would keep up with my 480 BHP STi, so if you're asking whether it's faster than a standard wr1 in a straight line, then yes, the Porsche would win, but with 385 BHP, you would expect that. On a twisty road/circuit - not really sure.

the 997 Turbo is simply an awesome car. I got to drive one when they werent even letting people test drive without at least 10k deposit and was stunned at how good it was. Whilt driving the sales guy got a call from the dealer saying bring the car straight back, it's sold! luckily I had just finished the test drive!

Everyday roads for me are fast A and B roads with lots of twists and short straights. Limited dual carriageway to overtake!!

PMSL, OK, if you give me the money!

I wouldn't be able to convince myself buying a brand new is a good idea, when an earlier 997 is so much cheaper. If I could free up the cash and get a good enough deal I might be tempted. but there are some options I would definitely want and finding one in the right colour with those options would be very difficult.

Sounds like an amazing car mate. My father in law has had older porsches such as carrerras and 911 turbo and even a 997. All were serious bits of kit and like go-karts to drive. The classic 911 turbo that he had took 2 secs to spin the turbo up then about 2secs to get to 60. So much boost with that thing once you got it in the power band. If it wasnt for the servicing costs and high price tags id have considered these before the news of the wife getting up the duff of course ;)...

It's been for sale in there at least 3 months (I kept seeing it everytime I went to get my compensation!!)

I suspect they are selling it on behalf of an owner (like a lot of the cars in there at the moment) Dare you to go in and get your own back with a "Last Drive Test Drive"....

I would absolutely shite myself laughing if I went down there and saw that Porsche on it's roof in the showroom on Rob's desk...!!

I'd calmly have to ask Rob "What occured here then? Last Drive perhaps?"

I tell ya that company needs some guys to teach them a lesson about treating people like shit after theyve got your money... they are practically thieves the way they commit to doing so much before purchasing a car then when you get it they havent done it. Dont know how they get away with it... Know any bouncers? I was thinking of getting a debt collecting agency to park a van outside his new place to put people off - it worked for my father in law a while back when he almost got fleeced on his aston.
