New scirocco

Postby robwils » Tue Feb 10, 2009 7:54 pm

Looked at a new scirocco yesterday, going back for test drive on Saturday, think the time for WR1 may be up

Also seen the current mazda 3 mps for 14.5K brand new !
mrs quite liked that too.

Just weighing up cost to change vs keeping scoob, warranty expires in May so no safety net !! :?

Anyone driven either of these ???

Scirocco is a nice looking car, but in the end drives like a Golf V, so nothing great.

Plus, with the VW reliability nowadays, I'd rather have a scoob without warranty than a VW with...

Yes, VW was OK.

Nowadays they struggle to make one reliable car

And if you get a diesel of all the German makes, you're completely in for a regular trip to the dealer :?

I sold my scoob 3 years ago.

As for the VW, it's not any worse than Audi. They're just as bad when it comes to having engines that are unproven.
Yours is an 'older' engine (no offence meant) and is already one that's reliable.

All that new TDI cr@p and turbo-compressor 1400cc stuff... leave it for few years still until it's reliable enough to fit into a Skoda.

Sirocco is just a golf GTI underneath isnt it?

If considering a Mazda MPS then seriously try the Focus ST - much better ride and handling + comfy... if looking for hard ride and sportiness then the renault hot hatches still seem best from what i test drove a while back.

Yes just a golf underneath but nicer (IMO) shape.
Think std equipment is better for the cash too ?

Attractive thing about Mazda is 14.5K (and 0% finance) for a brand new 09 one - as they are changing shape soon, so its been reduced.

do you want a car thats going to be replaced soon though?
depreciation hit + new model hit will knock price right down when you come to sell after a couple of weeks of owning one and wondering why did i bother? ;)

Nah im just messing with you. Im sure the Mazda is good at what it was designed for. If its dirt cheap youd be silly to ignore it. The only way to tell the way to go is to test drive a few. I tested the megane 220 sport/golf gti/astra vxr when picking the focus st from that list. partly as it had a lot of kit on it for the money - gti equivalent was around 6k more if you add the same kit!!

MPS wasnt out so didnt try one of those but i know a few people convert from them to ST's. I think they said they were cars with big engines, the weight balance and sportiness side of them wasnt setup properly. So round town they will be fine and on a motorway. On country roads and a track they would get left behind.

Using WR1 less and less these days as I have a PUG 206 I use during week, as well as our Mazda 5 kid carrier.
Just thinking of getting rid of two cars to buy one thats reasonably fast and sporty as well as OK for everyday use.
Love look of R26 but maybe to harsh for everyday use ?

However browsing on internet last night part of me was thinking sod it - just detango, get a splitter, some DEFI's and some AP's :D :D.

Too much to think about.
