My gear knobs looking a bit aged, and I was wondering if it can be polished back. I'm assuming i can't just buy a new one.

Sorry to hear that you Knob has not aged well - unfortunatly I can't see your knob, but if you would like to share PhotoBucket is probably an easy way to create the pic's.

RE getting a new knob, Holdcraft had some a while back - I think they were about £70, but were the genuine item with the WR1 emblem.

Pictures show for me, I copied the link straight from photobucket same as always. It's not that impressive anyway to be honest! Just your average wr1 knob. I'll have a search see if they've still got one. Thanks.

Still can't see it. Its probably an issue with my computer.

I think your knob does look a little over used and abused maybe it needs some love



On a serious note I bought two pretty bad ones off eBay and managed to get the ball polished but the top is a different matter as soon as it was touched with a polisher it starts to get the etching off.

Was the last owner male or female, either way your knob looks well abused, I would opt for a new one and don't wear a ring. I love the subject header.... Knob polishing

It is certainly looking battered. I've emailed holdcroft to see if they have any left, otherwise it's finding a wr1 being broken with a pretty decent one. When I do get one the girlfriend will be wearing a silk glove to stop it getting battered again!

The silk glove is a splendid idea to protect your Knob but I prefer a velvet glove whilst polishing mine..............................perhaps Polished Bliss could help

eww no-one likes that many scratches on the knob, I would recommend speaking to any subaru dealer, They have the facility to mail every dealer in the country with a part request and hopefully one will reply, Mine cost me £75 but looks the bollocks ! (not the knob)

You could get some fine grade "wet or dry" rubbing down papers, grades 400 to 1200 and polish out the scratches by hand. start with say 400 and finish with 1200 then metal polish and a bit of elbow grease. It'll be fine.

Managed to get a decent second hand one from subaru breakers on eBay. Now I'll take the old one and try and polish it. I'll post some picks if I manage to get it nice and shiny again. Now just waiting for my mudflaps to be delivered, then need to find some original mats in good nick. Then maybe she'll get a nice detail and I'll post up some pics in the garage.
