Hi guys car has only done 20000miles but as i don't do 1000miles a year thought i will replace the cambelt

I have been quoted £520.00 from main dealer to replace the belt and the hydraulic tensioner. I thought this was very steep but they said the tensioner is
£200.00 alone

Can anybody give me any comments on the above

Thanks

Jamie 8) i am build no 320 had to re register as forgot password

Dealer cost for tensioner sounds about right

can supply a full kit (t/belt, 2x plain pulleys, 1x toothed pulley & tensioner) including the extra idler pulley for just over £200inc....................

if your local we fit for £325inc. (can be a lot cheaper as the tensioner/idlers are on an "inspection" basis and often are perfect

as performance- They did say that the tensioner may be ok and may not need it but I wont know and still get charged for it.

Do you think this will be ok at 20000 miles?

Thanks

Jamie

I would fit the lot as a matter of course using genuine items, If that belt snaps or tensionor fails? the pistons will make love to all 16 valves and your pockets will be truely empty forever.......... you will also cry like a baby

Sound advice that, If you have it stripped out anyway why not replace the tensioner too, I had it all replaced and the water pump as it had done 46,000, You cant be too careful when you are asking that much power from it all of the time

internet myth as there are NO plastic idler pulleys on a SUBARU..........

a lot of this "scare mongering" i believe is because people are coming from VW/AUdi, etc. which DO have massive idelr pulley/water pump issues

have done Subaru's for 15yrs or so now and never had any problems
