Postby Biggsdogg » Wed Jan 09, 2013 12:18 pm

Hi. Can anyone help with a diagram or part list forthe back brake assembly. Mine decided to explode on the outside lane of the M74. f*cking scary stuff. Can't order the parts til I know which ones I need.

Wowzers - how fast were you going? Were the disc / pad's knackered?

70ish haha. Brand new discs and pads. Think it was a small bolt inside the drum split and destroyed the abs sensor, abs ring and the shoes. Scary

never had that in messing with Subaru's for 15yrs++ even on competition cars

no reason for anything to move/come adrift unless its been damaged during disc removal/install or just not assembled correctly??

This sounds rather strange, surely you must have run over something that was kicked up by the wheel that caused some form of damage. By design if they are fit correctly in the first place I cant see how it would shatter like that. Did a garage give you that opinion and if so which one as it may be worth warning people to steer clear of it

Did you replace the inboard handbrake shoes at the same time?

Looks to me that when they removed the old disc's they may have disturbed the inboard pad reataining spring? the pad lining itself may have come away from the shoe. This has only happened to me once, the pad came away from shoe only at slow speed, the car locked up, so i can imagine at 70ish MPH things within the disc will be pretty...mmm.
Did they over adjust the handbrake?

In all accounts the car was fine before the replacement of new parts? So something not fitted correctly :?
