Motorsport Photography

Anyone into it?
I've just started out getting to grips with my DSLR.
Took a trip to Silverstone for the BTCC qualifying earlier this month, to try and grab some motorsport shots, got the chance to walk around the whole of Silverstone and see other races, and some people doing the experience days.

Bear in mind I am not tall enough to get over some of the fences, hence why you may see some lines across the bottom of the picture.

I don't think I did bad for a first time go at moving shots...

Nice pics, I believe the knack is to focus on a point of the track then move the camera slightly before that point. Pan with the car and try to time the shot for where you focus'd on to create the blurred background but crisp car pics.

Yup, that is kind of what I was doing, focusing on a part of track then panning with the camera- having the camera on continuous shooting, I came away from this day with dumping about 97% of my shots due to lack of focus and quality.

The other part was to try and get shots with the wheels in motion rather than at a standstill like these ones:
