Trip to the Lakes

Been up to Ambleside last week for a bit of walking with the dogs (and the Mrs), took it as a chance to test the fuel economy claims of some folk- turns out 300 miles on a tank IS possible, if you don't go anywhere near boost...

Still, had a fantastic week, the sun shone, the roads were made for the Impreza and there were about a hundred local beers to try!

Here are a few snaps:

Drove all the way to Windermere, parked up, came back to the car and found this WRX next door...

After driving mostly carefully for a week I finally snapped on the way home at junction 18 and put my foot down back to 16. I also spanked it to Sainsbury's and back (5 mile round trip).

End result: Filled up after 276 miles with just under 1/4 tank left - 29mpg! 29!!!

I was amazed too! Keeping under 70 on the motorway and changing up below 3k works wonders.

You'll be pleased to know normal service has been resumed. Went out to Bakewell & Buxton yesterday - 50 miles on 1/4 tank. Ha!

The roads around there are some of my fav's in the world. Especially the blast from Coniston up to Ambleside, and not forgetting the glorious bits in Grisedale too.

Would love to drive back and spent some time up there again with the 1 - used to go for 4 weeks every summer as a canoeing instructor.

Great place to live, hope you had a fab time....shame you were taking it easy though...you would have to cut both my legs off to stay in double digit mpg.

Well, I did give it a bit of stick when we got there, but when every apex is met with a really annoying EEK! from the wife it sucks all the fun out of it.

I have the same issue with the missus in the car, doesnt understand a mans requirement for BOOST

Why dont u get one for the wife if you like them ?

me: "When did you put a dent in the back of it?"

her: "I haven't dented the back of it..."

me: "Really? Because there's a new dent in the back of it."

her: "I hit a post, I didn't think you'd notice..."

She also parks by feel. When she hears the wheels grate on the kerb she knows she's close enough.

She's never having a new car. Ever. I'm going to get her a Land Rover or something.

I am a firm beliver that a "Taxi to the kerb" is defo the right choise., it's the most cost effective option.......belive me, when she says" is that close enough"............... it's too late. Kerb versus alloy, no contest. but then i forgive her.
