My previous cars (and other stuff)

Postby Steveyk » Wed Feb 29, 2012 7:52 pm

A few photos I dug out of my laptop earlier:

Image

My 1st and 3rd cars. The 106 was my first. 64bhp and 4 gears. It would cock an inside rear with the best of them! The Octavia vRS was my first 'proper' fast car, went like poop off a stick with 180bhp. In between I had a 2.0 A6 automatic which was ace, but dog slow and cornered like a boat.

Then I had a Fabia vRS 1.9TDI, got it chipped and enjoyed huge torque, black smoke and 50mpg. After that I had an MG ZT-T 190. It had been registered to a Rover bigwig and had every concievable toy and was sprayed in a 'special' colour called 'Celestial Blue'. Oddly not that different to the WR1.

I got rid of the MG (still regret it - it was lovely) for this:

Image

Had some good times in the 182!

The 182 went for my first Impreza:

Image

I loved the wagon, it had the PPP from the factory, bundles of history, receipts and a 5K touch screen stereo/sat nav. It had done 96k when I got rid and never missed a beat. I traded the WRX in for a Citroen Berlingo Multispace - I hang my head in shame. It was all part of a plan to save money for our wedding. You can just see it in the back of this photo (when I'd redeemed myself by buying the WR1)

Image

During my time with the 'Bingo' I dabbled with an MX-5 too. Brilliant, until I spun it 360 degrees and soiled the red leather seats...

Image

Then the day I got back from Honeymoon in Mauritius (she still swears she never ok'd it, but she did) I bought the latest and greatest addition to my car history, My WR1 No. 287:

Image

This was taken not long after I bought it, at our house in Devon. Shod with 4 new Bridgestones and after having a minor service it blew me away. Not sure how I got from Stoke to Devon without a run in with the 5-0...

Looking at it now I think the black wheels actually looked quite smart!

I have no intentions of selling the 1, I spent monday punting a Golf GTI Edition 35 round the evo triangle in wales and to be honest it was crap. If that's what passes for a fast car these days I'm sticking to the Scoob!

This is a pic of my clutch that was changed at 60k. Probably the original one by the looks of it... when I bought it at 55k the previous owner swore he had changed it "not long ago"

I like the wagon too, never had one but like their all round ability! Also had a berlingo, funny vans! Reliable, like the friggin tardis the amount of stuff I got in it... You shouldn't have said that was the clutch, Statto would have thought that was a steering wheel

When you say 5k screen in the wagon, did you put that in or was it already in? Seriously.... 5,000 of the queens pounds??

Good post though Steve.

What's your issue with Statto's Mr Below Average?

The wagon was ace, 265bhp so you could put the wind up STI's, and enough room in the boot for the dogs. Plus, the ride was a lot comfier than the 1, the trade off being understeer when pressing on. And dog sick in the boot.

Quite high given we are on the site at the same time and your post was a dig at me.

Back on topic. I like wagons too, especially Wagon Wheels.

Non STi does make a better daily car. Would be even better with a six speed box.

I'm not talking about Berlingo's because I've not given up on life yet. Saying that, I was impressed by the C4 as a holiday hire car on a budget. Gotta love the Renault Kangpoo as an alternative.

Oh yeah, gotta love the Kangoo. Not quite as big in the back, and the glass roof in the Bingo is class. Used to find the rubber floor excellent for cleaning out too.

The stereo in the wagon was £5,300-odd fitted if I remember correctly. Pioneer satnav/tv/dvd effort with slide out touchscreen, CD multichanger, all new speakers and a full quota of Dynamat insulation. Only paid £5k for the whole car! Bargain!

Great deal, buy a stereo and get a car free. Happy days Stevie. What tunes do you rock to in your free car?

Elgar, Mozart, Chopin, Iron Maiden, the usual I guess

I couldn't believe how much it had cost the mug who paid for it either, but he'd spent a fortune. On top of the PPP he'd had uprgraded Prodrive brakes, stainless kick plates and bumper protectors, headlight protectors, Samco hoses, plus the stereo. Oh, and my claim to fame is that the car appeared briefly on Top Gear in a piece on track days. It went past the camera being chased by a Lotus I think... :D

Can't believe I forgot my baby!

Image

Had this monster for 9 years. Had to sell it when we got married and missed it ever since. Had it when I was 19, Kept it til I was 28 and sold it for as much as I paid for it. I want it back. Feckin' women!

On the subject of the black wheels, they were gloss black with a red metallic flake. Looked mint but I felt I had a duty to keep the 1 looking standard!

Steve, I got to drive the new Merc engine C63 the other day. Its a BiTurbo job. It was in a CLS ( CLS C63 BiTurbo V8 ) so quite a big car but my god it was brutal. BHP nearly 600 with nearly as much torque. No doubt looking at that little collection there you may have had a go in one already. It made the 467 BHP standard C63 feel sluggish!!

MASSIVE grunt from that engine, I was also treated to it in a press-fleet CLS, it spent most of the time upsetting the traction control (wet or dry roads). Sounds ace too! I'd have one as a runaround if I won the lottery

Me and my Mate ripped one around the mercedes world track for an hour each and the Ceramic brakes was'nt even hot
Embarassing though Steve when I had to ask to be dropped off when sitting in the back on my mates laps! one more lap and I was gonna sling my lunch all over the back of the instructors head! Sitting in the back of that beast was not something id recommend! :puke:
( Thanks Mega I will start a new thread soon rather than highjack Steves! But long and short of it.......400bhp!)
