Mini cooper s John cooper works views?!!

Postby W1 KRB » Tue Jan 24, 2012 1:38 pm

So the Mrs has decided I don't let her drive the 1 enough (probably cos she scares the shit out of me in it) and has said she's gunna get a 2011 mini cooper s John works, black, black wheels, red roof and mirrors etc, they are 211 bhp standard so will have some go in it, anyone ever driven the new John works at all?! Views? And also could I ever be seen driving this car after the 1?! It's not exactly masculine is it for a 16 stone bloke!!

Many many years ago my wife had the JCW Mini when they were supercharged. For information, she call him Winston. At the time my daily car was a Focus RS. All day long the Mini was much more fun than the RS. For information, I called the RS "a lump of passionless poo which I traded in for a X-Type Diesel with more character". There was a fair amount of torque steer to both these cars but the Mini was much more fun to handle. Drop the back seats in the mini and you get a lovely rasp from the zorst.

IIRC Winston was a 53 plate. He had a few niggles regards the steering rack within the first 3 years of his life but nothing that BMW didn't deal with. Other than that he was perfect for the duration we owned the cheeky little chappy.

WR1 v JCW Mini - no comparison in my opinion.

16 stone (mere slip of a lad) driving a Mini One could be an issue. In a JCW hooning about like a hooligan you will have a smile from ear to ear.

be aware (sure you are) that the pukka JC Works cars are factory built, there are also std Cooper S cars that have JC extras bolted to them and often get mis-advertised

Think i heard recently there's a recall on jcw mini's something to do with a fire risk, said it only happened to one but they were recalling them all as a precaution to do a wee fix to eliminate any risk of it happening to others. Worth asking about.

I seem to recall there was an issue with static around the petrol filler cap a number of years back.

Well latest on this story is that her car sold on Saturday and we ordered her new one the same day, coming this Thursday, decided to go for a 2010 model as we couldn't justify the extra 6k for a brand new one!

Good choice, not driven one myself but know people that have had them and loved them. I looked at them when choosing my megane as a daily driver but needed the extra room. Cant believe how cheap they are now a few yrs old.

Well we priced one brand new as she wants it no sat nav and it was £25,550, we got a 60 plate with 8k on it and the 1k sat nav extra for £19,500, can't justify that 6 grand just to lose it as we drive it off the forecourt!
