WR1 or EVO X?

Postby Parky78 » Wed Apr 27, 2011 7:39 pm

Having just purchased my WR1 yesterday, I am still getting to know the car so I apologise if I sound a bit thick!?! :?

My friend purchased an EVO X FQ300 SST (08 reg) a couple of weeks ago and he hasn't let me hear the end of it! Before I gob off to him, what would you guys say is the quickest car? Both cars are standard.

Arguably it comes down to the driver, it would be nice to shut him up though (no dis-respect to any evo owners).

Cheers. :)

The original times for the WR1 0 to 60mph is 4.25 sec.
for starters.

ps welcome to WR1OC.

The (his) Evo can change gear a lot quicker due to the double-clutch semi-auto gearbox and it will be more consistent off-the-line. The claimed 4.25 Secs 0-60 time of the WR1 is very difficult to achieve (by a mere mortal) without breaking something!

...but, if the Evo X is as poor as my old Evo IX then it will break down before it gets going anyway.

Take it from me, having owned several Scoobies and an Evo, if I were offered these 2 cars I'd drive away in the WR1......and that's all you need to know!
Sold out and bought an EVO......then sold it because it was rubbish!

All being equal, A to B the Evo is always quicker. Ability the Evo scores 10, passion and smiles the Scooby wins.

I recall driving Spikes Evo 9, awesome, great car, but no skill required.

If Ihad to put my money where my mouth is in a race it would be the Evo... They carry the nose

If both cars were fault-free, I would agree that the Evo would win every speed-related challenge.

However, the WR1 has more Soul!

EVO X FQ300 SST 0-60 in 5.7s

You could have a drag race in your WR1.... get to the finish line boil a kettle and have a cuppa waiting for him at the finish line...

WR1 will smash that EVO all day long no matter how you drive it

as John says...read the specs and I am sure you would be suprised.

Unless it has has a slight tweak which can very easily unlease a bit more grunt, you would spank this all day long.

Thats reassuring to know, thanks!

Its quite funny because he had a Yamaha R1 last year, I had my Suzuki GSXR 1000k3 (now sold). I always had the edge on him, it would be good if I still have the edge! LOL :D

I will try and get someting, maybe a video of a drag? :D

I better get used to the WR1 a bit more first though!

stop fanying about...

put the thing in locked mode..engage first gear...build revs to 45-5000 ish and then just hammer it.

Never tried this without LC, so you will not build that much boost to launch you, so revs might have to increase a tad.

Remeber in the twisties left foot braking still enables a slight trailing throttle to keep the boost up - then your flying when you lift off and no waiting for the turbo to spin up.

Exactley what i was gonna say Caveman!!
WR1 should see the 300 EVO off But you might want to do a rolling road to check your BHP. Some WR1'S vary quite alot in standard guise. If you really want to see him off have a sneaky remapp with Duncan but dont tell your mate :norty:

Cheers Cozzy, cheeky idea but cheeky is good! :D

Do any of you guys know of a decent specialist who could do a good re-map and roughly how much it would cost? I am in the North Hertfordshire area.

I will probably change the air filter if I go for the re-map. I have heard that there isn't much point going for an induction kit if I stay below the 350bhp mark. Does this sound about right?

I will probably just go fo an airfilter and a remap. Do you guys think I will gain much power by doing this? I will probably keep the standard WR1 exhaust for the time being :?:

Cheers.

DSA Aylesbury, RCM Leicester, do a google if you want closer and ask if anyone here has used them ! Cost wise depends on if your car has had a remap before, otherwise you'have to pay extra for the ecutek license so between £300 to £600.

Had Duncan from RaceDynamix do mine(Advertised at top of screen). £350 for the mapp. I put a Green air filter in at £40,with an afterburner backbox(Cant remember cost of that). On the rolling road i got 336bhp. Money well spent IMO but its not just the BHP the car drives sooooo much better. Smoother delivery of power.Duncan has done loads of cars on here he comes recommended. If you pay a bit more he will do Launch Control for you so you really smash the EVO to bits!!
Build the revs to 4000rpm hold and drop the clutch then....... BYE BYE !
