Cracked rim!

Hi guys
Had a slow puncture and have found a small crack of about 3cm on the inside lip of the alloy onnce the tyre was off.
Can this be easily repaired ?

It's illegal to weld a crack/split on a wheel, Thats why most most garages wont do it, To be on the safe side i'd get another wheel,

Nope Prodrive dont do them any more :( They are like hens teeth, rarer than a snowplow on my street :evil:
Keep an eye out on fleabay or put up a post in the wanted section in here?

Where abouts is the crack located? Do you have a pic?

If, for example, the crack was located around the rim and ground out, then refurbed (as if it had had a severe kerbing) what would be the difference? There would be no crack propagation if it was ground out.

If the crack was on a spoke say, or propagating from the hub, I'd say ditch the wheel. but if it's round the rim I can't see the problem with getting it ground out and refurbed.

You'll have problems getting a new one.

Its about 2-3cm from the outer edge of the inside lip....can only see it when the tyre is off....think it is small enough to weld now but can see it getting bigger in time....plus the tyre is nearly flat after 2 days

Not with the risk IMO, these are the only things keeping you out a ditch and on the road!! For sake of new wheel it just isn't worth that risk.

i've got a pfff7 wheel it needs refurbing, its kerbed quite bad i want £90 for it i think they used to retail for £260+ vat

Thanks guys....decided to buy a new set of wheels as have never been too keen on the original prodrive ones

Have gone for some 5 spoke GTR style in a matt bronze with Toyo Tr1's

They look awesome and make the car look a bit more aggressive imo.

Please let me know if you hear of anyone after an original, as the other 3 are in near perfect condition (silver) with about 5-6mm of pzero rosso rubber

Spoke with a wheel specialist yesterday, grind out the crack/split out an more some it is repairable, the only place non repairable if it were on one of the spokes !

Agreed. You can stop-drill a crack - drill small holes just after each end of it and when it propagates into the hole it cant go no further. Obviously you'd have to fill these holes in the case of a wheel...
